In the whole grand scheme of things, they could have put a tram along the airport access road to access the old parking garage and terminal.
Heck if my memory serves me correctly, car rental lots are still on that side the airport.
So a tram connection should have been built.
Otherwise you may have some folks end up like this in Planes Trains and Automobiles.

I guess there will be shuttles to the rental car facility. Should also have shuttles to and from the existing parking garages. You might be better off parking there especially if you are coming or going 310 south or 310 to 10 west.

As already stated, build a tram connecting the terminals. They can make the old airport a security hub and then people just hop on the tram for their terminal. Similar to Orlando or Tampa.
The tram would solve the road issue.

There is still only ONE left turn lane from I 10 west onto Loyola South bound.
In defense of that, how much airport traffic is going to be coming past the Williams exit and taking Loyola? I'd imagine most people would exit Williams then get on Vets.
ETA: In defense isn't really the right wording. All of the decisions with this new terminal's construction are indefensible

y'all know there is a giant runway that runs between the old terminal and the new terminal, and another giant runway that runs between the two terminals and the current access road, right?
It would be a rather long tram ride as it would have to go, probably, around the west side of the east/west runway. People are complaining about the current cost of the new terminal, I can't even imagine how much higher the cost would be if they did a tram.
There's currently a little access road - call Shell Rd on maps - that basically connects the old terminal area, then runs between the N/S runway and the current access road, then around the north end of the runway, and back over to where the new terminal will be. I just assumed they would use this road to run shuttle buses. I don't know if that would be a security risk, though.

Not really, because traffic would then have to turn left at Loyola. Getting off of the interstate, turning left onto Loyola, the motorist would go "straight" across Veterans to the new road, that appears to sweep to the left a few hundred yards past Veterans.

I see that now, not sure why I was thinking a turn on Vets was necessary.
I went through the Loyola exit a day or two ago and I feel like I remember seeing a new lane that wasn't open yet. Could that be an additional left to go towards the airport?

Airport was supposed to open in 2018.

They were all striped and "arrow'ed" yesterday when I went through. The exit is still the same as it has always been: one left, one straight/right, one right to north Kenner.

That should be the tram/people mover route to save on the countless bus runs they will need to connect the car lots.
I also don’t know why the existing ramps couldn’t peel off and veer to the new terminal at surface level. (It may be too hard a hard right turn.). They could even extend a new ramp past the flight path North of I-10 and then cross over on the interstate.
My only issue with what they did to expedite the intersection improvements will be that was done all for nothing and will need to be torn out when the build the final ramp alignments.
Also, you could look at it this way, if you are flying in or out and returning a rental car you are going to use the existing ramp, but if you are being dropped off by Uber or a Taxi, or parking at the airport you are going to use the Loyola exit and plow through the traffic.

They have stated there will be shuttle buses running from the existing parking garages to the new terminal. The issue is though that these shuttle buses will be using the same entrance to the airport as everyone else that is driving there. Meaning these buses will be stuck in the traffic as well. So not only will you have to get there early to make your flight, you'll have to get there earlier to ensure you get on a shuttle in time that will then have to go through the traffic to get to the terminal.
