A New Jersey judge is being asked to consider whether a high school baseball coach was “negligent” when he signaled for one of his players to slide during a game, resulting in injury.
?A judge had already dismissed the case, but the appellate court ruled that the lower court judge “never analyzed whether (the player) presented facts in support of his claim that … conduct was reckless.” The judge will now reconsider the suit and either dismiss it or set a trial.
According to court documents, and as reported by MyCentralJersey.com, former Bound Brook High School baseball player Jake Maser hit a ball into the gap with runners on second and third with his team up 6-0. As Maser rounded second and approached third, coach John Suk signaled Maser to slide. When Maser dropped to the ground, his cleat dug into the dirt and caused him to roll over his right ankle. The injury required surgery.
Maser’s lawsuit claims Suk and the Bound Brook Board of Education “negligently” and “carelessly” supervised the game, according to court documents. The article does not indicate what Maser seeks in damages.

I hope the person suing loses the case, has to pay all of the court costs, and has their other ankle broken just because.

Maybe he saw some poop on the basepath and was trying to avoid it.

If you would have read the article, you would’ve known that the play was at third-base, not home

The frick is this shite?
Whoever is involved in deciding this case needs to think long and hard before doing something utterly idiotic.
Once the precedent is set for people to sue schools for injuries sustained while playing sports then, well...bye-bye sports.

Man most lawyers woulda chalked this up as a loss after the hearing. The appeal kills me

Then that's on the player, he should have gone head first.

There will just be waivers galore now.

Next he'll tack on punitive damages for being forced to feel a greasy turd..

He deserves the Pete Rose punish banned from baseball..... for life

Seems like maybe he should sue for the coach not teaching him how to slide properly. Or maybe the third baseman can sue the runner for potentially putting him in harms'way by sliding like a retard.

Unfortunately, waivers do not mean anything. You can't waive negligence or failure to perform caution.
Regardless, we need a system that punishes attorneys for stupid shite. What is that thing in China called?
