Could you give us a guesstimate on how much our crawfish would cost if you had to pay the $20-25 an hour to get a lazy local worker to actually accept one of your jobs during crawfish season?

Mine was illegals coming in for crop season and being allowed to drive semi trucks and trailers with no experience. Happens down here alot. All the excuses everybody got wont change the fact that these co ops shouldnt be doing this. Its dangerous and blatant all because they are getting away with low pay for the work these temps from other countries do. Just ask the Viator family if they think this is okay.

Loggers have an exemption with DOT, not sure sugarcane fits that category.

Ever wonder why our social security cards in 2023 still look to be printed at home on Walmart cardstock? It's all accepted and encouraged. If they use a fake number, where do those taxes go if paid in?

SWLA same with us .. our guys are very very legal, great workers and love being here but are happy to go home at the end of harvest.
No one local can hang on our farm it seems .. this was our first year with having them here but it was a huge blessing and my husband was able to not stress quite as much.
Where do you farm? Ive asked but can’t remember.
I’m very sorry for the loss of this lady but I don’t think there’s a coverup. But then again it is Louisiana ..

I would love to have all Americans working for me but there’s absolutely no interest in our area the H2A workers work their butts off and are very grateful to have the job

1000%.
We do have two older guys .. one really needs to retire age/health wise but he’s slow and steady .. the other is getting up there in age.
Again we’re grateful for the H2A workers.

A friend of mine with cdl license point blank asked a boss that he so hapoened to know at a sugar mill to drive during crop, he explained to him prolly not because around a 100 or more men from south america will be brought in to drive trucks. Yep. Facts. Law dgaf either nor seem to understand how dangerous this can be becsuse they dont understand how dangerous a semi is. Rant over for me. God Bless the Bourque family and the Viator family.

I passed that way less than 10 minutes after it happened. I was on Hwy 90 headed towards Lafayette and some police, fire & ems were arriving others were en route.
The accident happened at the intersection of the frontage road and one of the larger side roads in that area.
It was a tractor pulling two Davis carts, not an 18 wheeler. No one has ever needed a CDL to drive a tractor - anywhere, ever.
Hyperventilate all you want, this is the internet after all, but at least have your facts straight.

If it was a tractor hauling cane then this whole thread has been fear mongered about 18 wheeler agriculture use. Marci Moches come on get your facts straight before you spew stuff

I believe this story. A drunk illegal in Montgomery , Alabama side swiped three parked cars. The illegal then knocked a telephone pole down and it fell on a truck that was purchased the week before. The drunk then jumps out of the car he was driving and ran to a home that was occupied by other illegals. Cops were called and the witnesses told the cop where to find the drunk illegal. The cop said that he couldn't do anything because he had to see the drunk behind the wheel of a car. Everybody was pissed to say the least. I asked the cop how in the hell accidents are investigated in Bama. I then got cursed out by the cop because I said that if that was a black person he would kick the door in to get to the black offender. You can't investigate an illegal because since he sneaked into the country they have no records on them. Inside the car the drunk was driving were eight different driver's licenses with eight different names. License plate was fake and they must of had twelve empty bottles of hard liquor. Screw the American citizen, we must cater to the illegals.

You using emotions over not knowing this industry or the laws.
They are hauling for agricultural purposes which is legal.
Most of the people come over on work permits.
I worked on some of their equipment before I retired. Their equipment yes is older, while they do keep their stuff up better than some over the road.
Just because a person has a CDL does not mean they drive a truck safely.
As far as their equipment the ag companies redo their trailers every year. In the off season they get new suspensions, hubs, lights, air brake cans, air lines, s cams, shoes, drums, and tires. The abuse during the season that you may see lights out etc. They do bring them in their shops for triage repairs. Major overhauls are done in the off season.
Yes, the tractors and trailers are put under a lot of stress. The guys running these companies do keep their equipment up as these trucks are how they make their living.
Now some regional carriers with CDL driver’s.
I also seen especially Russian drivers come over to the United States, yes on a visa. Get a CDL in states like Illinois that rubber stamp their CDL license. Work for a carrier and lease a truck where they are responsible for repairs. They let those trucks get run into the ground and quit, leaving a POS truck in an abandoned parking lot. I been called out to check these trucks. Everytime the brake shoes are almost metal to the drum almost no pad, major head gasket leaks, EGR cooler shot, and the air compressor just pumps enough air to disengage the brakes. Then the trailers are a whole different animal with bald tires, lights don’t work, and brakes it’s metal to the metal on the drums. These guys run as fast as they can even if the truck is set at maximum speed.
Which truck would you want behind you?
Please spew your BS about an industry you really don’t know anything about.
Yes, accidents happen.
Sometimes it is the commercial driver and sometimes it the 4 wheel vehicle.

Johnny, you know I respect your opinion and expertise. I mean, as old as you are ( ) you've bound to learn a thing or ten.
I've seen some raggedy rigs out there, and the LEO'S have got to be looking the other way.

You talking to me? I specifically said those illegals don’t have a cdl and nor do they need one because it is farm equipment and also because of the distance you’ve stayed.
