What's important is they unveiled it in time for gay pride month. Wondering when they'll announce the rainbow color scheme, and the seat option that includes a rubber plug.

But in all seriousness, I like small trucks. Maybe this one won’t suck.

The old Maverick was meant to be a poor man’s Mustang. It was a POS.

Let me dream dammit.

My first vehicle was a S-10 with a 2.8 Iron Duke and a 5spd in it. Great truck. You could not kill it and to this day I wish I had that truck back. It was a workhorse and it never failed me.

Soooo.. Like the Ranger?

The previous generation Ranger before they made the Ranger the size of the previous generation F-150 which is now the size of the previous F-250 because every suburban dad has to have $50k 4-door double row pickup truck to haul the kids to soccer practice and swing by the local Home Depot to pick up a bag of potting soil on their way home.

Its gross, coming from a Ford guy. The new ranger isn't bad though. Idk why they have the Raptor Ranger in Europe but don't sell it in the US. That would be a fun truck to play around with.

They should have called it a ranchero, but “cultural appropriation”...blah, blah, blah.

Ridgeline has a higher maximum payload than the Ranger or the Raptor. FACT.

But the Ridgeline has 3.5” of ground clearance, and I’m being generous.

Me too. I think I might like this version better.

Ridgeline

Ridgeline is better than the competition in ways that really matter to truck buyers.....if they were being honest with themselves. It can tow a fishing boat, haul all of your shite, and cruise more comfortably on the highway than any other truck. The VTEC Honda V6 is a gem of an engine, and you can get a pretty well equipped model for under $40,000.

If the Maverick is a smaller version of that, they'll probably sell reasonably well. I doubt anything Ford makes is as reliable as the Ridgeline though.

The Hyundai Santa Cruz is the other car-based truck, and it looks to split the difference in size between the Maverick and the Ridgeline.

All three are car based. The Ford is the smallest, the Honda is the largest. I suspect any future Dodge/Ram, Chevrolet, or Toyota competitor will be more squarely aimed at the Hyundai product rather than the Ford or Honda.

The fans of the older model might be upset, but the name is cool as hell.

I don't like that they used the Mustang brand on that electric hatchback. I don't like that Chevrolet used the Blazer name on that crossover. I don't care that they are good cars....those names shouldn't be attached to products that don't match the design intent or tradition of the original.

Laugh all you want. Ford is going to aim this thing squarely at the fleet customers that current buy the cheapest, lower end versions of the Chevy Colorado and Toyota Tacoma. And it will probably drive better better than both even though it will have less capability.

Your exterminator is probably going to buy one. Maybe even the meter reader for your local municipality. Probably a handful of first time retail car buyers too unless they are stupid about the pricing.

It will have its place in the market. (Pest control, delivery trucks, small service vehicles)
I'd certainly get one if I didnt have a boat to pull.

The Mustang was a poor man's Mustang. It was originally a secretary's car, then it was (IMO) mismanaged for about 30 years by Ford while they focused on other products.

Must of us like the modern Mustangs that can actually perform, but the reality is that Ford affixed the Mustang nameplate to a lot of lame cars. And most people aren't as well informed about performance cars as the 20-40 year old predominantly male posters on the OT.

The first encounter with a Mustang for millions of people (depending on their age) were slow, unreliable shite boxes like this:

Which is okay I guess. Ford was able to sell a lot of poverty edition Mustangs to trailer park dwellers and rental agencies when Dodge and Chevrolet stopped producing their competitors for some years.

I do think that the Camaro, Challenger, and Mustang will both being going full electric very soon. That's going to open up a lot of performance potential. And it's why I'm frustrated that Ford used the brand name for a 5 door hatchback.

Even if it is a decent EV, Ford would have been better off reviving the Mercury brand and using it instead of having a Mustang crossover/hatchback thingy.

How big is your boat?

Both of these can tow 5,000 lbs:

5,000 lbs is a lot of boat unless you are into salt water fishing. And since no one outside the logistics industry tows a boat every day, you can take advantage of solid fuel economy and a more comfortable ride than a typical pickup truck for your commute too.

The Maverick is smaller and less powerful than the Ridgeline or Santa Fe so it's not a fair comparison. The Maverick is more in line with the smallest, cheapest Tacoma, Frontier or Colorado with their entry level engines.

The Ridgeline is basically a Pilot, which is a very good crossover SUV. They added in an aluminum frame underneath it to improve towing. It does particularly well with payload capacity, but it's pretty good for moderate towing too.
