BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Walter Andrew Brister IV, the son of a former NFL player “Bubby” Brister, pleaded guilty after a hit-and-run incident that killed a man walking on Ben Hur Road near LSU back in 2022.
Brister IV, a Neville High School graduate and former Aaron’s Ace, appeared in court Wednesday morning where he pleaded guilty to a felony hit-and-run charge. He will be sentenced on October 11, facing anywhere from zero to 10 years in prison.
The crash happened in October of 2022, when a 44-year-old pedestrian, identified as Jude Jarreau, and a friend were attempting to cross Ben Hur Road near Burbank Drive in Baton Rouge when an SUV hit him, police said. Jarreau, a father of two, died at the scene.
The attorney for Walter Andrew Brister IV, the Louisiana Tech student, said his client did not realize he was responsible for the incident until the following morning.
Attorney John McLindon says he notified authorities “within hours” of the accident about his client’s involvement in the death of 44-year-old pedestrian Jude Jarreau. He says all parties agreed that Brister would wait to turn himself in on Wednesday, mainly because Monday was a holiday and the courts would be closed.
Brister, a 21-year-old at the time, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of felony hit-and-run. The charge carries a maximum of 10 years in prison. He posted bond the same day of his arrest.
While pleading guilty today, Blister apologized for his actions.

My guess is both parties had likely been drinking
Who tries to cross the road on foot at that location
That could have been any college kid that night and it's not like that road is well lit so if he was stumbling in the road then it's possible he never saw him

Had to let the BAC clear up
More lives ruined by the trashy behavior of drinking alcohol. Sad.
Jude Jarreau obit

Big money changing hands behind the scenes. He will get 5 yrs and serve less than 3 with good behavior time. Hopefully his anus will never recover and his front teeth will need to be replaced upon release.

The stories of his father being a complete douche while playing for that school in Monroe in college are legendary. Arrogance for no reason. Bar fights.

So he ran because he was drunk
Better for him to plead to hit and run vs manslaughter due to being drunk

To let him sober up. What a failure by the police to let this happen.

facing anywhere from zero to 10 years in prison.
Should be more

If the sentence can be anywhere from 0-10 years, I doubt he even gets 5.

Should get life in prison

Sure, you can argue that this is possible, but it's not possible to prove that he knew what he hit. IIRC it was really dark in the area that the accident occurred. I don't recall how much damage there was to the vehicle.

For an accident?
There are actual murderers out there that get a fraction of that.

We need common sense drinking laws

You can hate on the dude, but IF he was drunk, he was smart to haul arse.
The penalty for hit and run is less than the penalty for DWI. Throw in the death of the victim and he is looking at way less prison time - likely zero.

That street is incredibly dark at night. The city seriously needs to do something about it

He deserves scorn, humiliation, a felony record and maybe some jail time. We can all assume he was drunk, probably was but that can’t be proven, regardless of whether he would’ve turned himself in the next morning or not. But he wasn’t solely responsible.. the victim was walking on a street at night without paying attention, also probably drunk. It’s tragic but ultimately a negligent accident

Driving drunk isn’t an accident… but we really don’t know if he was drunk though

Right, and not to be insensitive, but if the guy wasn't alone, which it sounds like he wasn't, then the driver stopping wouldn't have changed anything in regards to the outcome of the victim.

Right, we can't prove that so it's irrelevant.
