Well slapdick that’s great you don’t care about getting stuck behind your neighbor but if those streets were gridded like they should be in a normal city of this size than the surface streets of BR wouldn’t be nearly as bad as they are now in regards to traffic.
So forgive me if I don’t give a frick if now ONE street in BR is trying to be more safe and pedestrian friendly to people that actually live in the city instead of catering to people who don’t even live in the area

Haven’t to been to BR in months, came into town today to watch the game with friends. Exited on bluebonnet and holy shite it was a “Welcome back to Baton Rouge” moment if I’ve ever had one.

I dislike Broome and company just as much as you buy this plan has been in action way before she took office. There is plenty of stuff to blame on her but this just isn’t one of them.

I’ve lived in Capital Heights for years now and don’t really have many complaints about traffic on govt st. I stay between Acadian and Jefferson mostly. The only time I go further is if we go downtown. They need to repave that mother fricker though. I have to wait on left turners every now and then but the new turn lane will fix that. Aren’t they making pullover spots for busses at bus stops that won’t impede traffic?

Not enough space. There will be multiple stops where the buses will still be in the travel lane.

Not familiar with the area, or size of it, being spoken about, but kind of sounds like what Dallas did with the Lower Greenville area. Small approx 1/4 mile stretch of road.
Yes it looks nicer than it had prior. It went from a more sketch nightlife area to a day/evening time area with less rift raft.
Has a trader joes, and I'm sure there are cool spots. But I avoid driving through the area like the plague. Cut from 4 lanes to 2 each way, with wider sidewalks.
It's a quick uber/lyft in for happy hour or dinner maybe, but I wouldnt recommend it to a non eatery at all. Trader joes does have it's own parking lot, but such a hassle to get in there you have to be a super big fan/hipster to want to go there.

I have read up on it extensively. As a small business owner who owns a piece of commercial property whose value is based on traffic count, I'd be particularly upset with the city parish for literally paying millions of dollars to drive traffic away from my location. Making a business district more inviting to pedestrian and bicycle traffic is great, but how much retail business is going to come from a guy on foot or on a bike? I'm sure Albertsons will be awash in people walking there to buy $5.00 worth of groceries since they have no car. I'm also positive with such a lovely climate of 100% humidity 75% of the year, everyone's going to want to walk to Phil's Oyster bar to have dinner instead of drive. Well everyone that lives within a 1/4 of a mile of the place, right? Screw the other 95% of Baton Rouge who will have to drive there. Let them have their 1 lane. Excellent plan.
I drive up and down Government daily and have no problem navigating.
And if you are an owner of commercial property than you should be happy that the property values are skyrocketing.

Well hey, we can't all be as smart as you, huh? Personally, as someone who drives down Government street daily and probably frequents at least 3 restaurants and other businesses on that strip every single week, I will be avoiding that area like the plague once they remove that other lane. Your turn lane is not going to assist me getting around the 15mph driver who will be able to inconvenience EVERYONE behind her. It won't allow me to go around the 15mph city bus either because driving in the turn lane is illegal. Nevermind every car that will have to literally STOP to make a right turn to yield to bikes and pedestrians while you and 20 other people sit behind them waiting for 1 bike. I know I know, just avoid the area because of the reduced number of travel lanes. Sounds like a splendid idea for economic growth to me.
I've lived and owned a restaurant in the area for the entirety of my adult life. I get that you're upset but I honestly do not understand why. Your examples seem petty and poorly thought out. Waiting for a cyclists to pass to make a right hand turn? Dude, how many people do you think will be in these bike lines?
If I lived on Claycut or Capital Heights I might be a little worried some traffic will find it's way into he neighborhood but that may not happen. If I lived by the new White Star Market I would be pretty upset with whoever let them build that place without a goddamn parking lot. These are legitimate concerns.

Oh and look, Mr. Im so intelligent, you are all idiots just compared a zero business residential area with a 100% business district when talking about traffic. Hey shite for brains, I'm perfectly OK driving in my neighborhood behind someone for a few blocks, but you know what I'm not ok with? Getting stuck behind someone on a major east-west surfact street in the center of town.
Sounds like you need a vacation. Lighten up. Have a

I drive this every day. They are actually repairing the road the right way. They are removing bad sections of the road and pouring concrete as it should. Thankfully they aren’t shoveling asphalt in the pot holes like you’d think.
Where? I drive on this street from Tara Boulevard to East Airport everyday, and see absolutely nothing happening.
