What about the "improvements" to Goodwood between Lobdell and Airline? I think their idea of improving this road was to merely scrape off the old layer of asphalt and call it a day.

No because there are no turning lanes currently on government st currently but they will have them after the construction is done. People still don’t realize this project is about increasing safety and making it more pedestrian friendly not reducing traffic. You cannot make government st any wider due to where the majority of buildings are located so this is the best option but you can’t tell that to the ignorant citizens of BR.

Same people who complain about this are the ones that live in their one street or no outlet subdivisions that are everywhere in BR and cause much more of a traffic issue than this road diet will.

We will have to wait and see how it turn out but a lot lot people don’t realize the 4 mile stretch being changed is to purposely slow down traffic. A center turning lane makes left hand turns so much easier and stops people from blocking lanes
yes a center lane will be great BUT there are no spots for the city busses to pull over to make stops thus you will be cock stuck behind the busses as they plod up and down gov't making stops.

Don't be dishonest.

It is absolutely about reducing traffic. The goal is to force more east-west traffic onto North and Florida. If there is not a reduction in traffic on Government, it will be an even greater disaster than it's going to be.

Well hey, we can't all be as smart as you, huh? Personally, as someone who drives down Government street daily and probably frequents at least 3 restaurants and other businesses on that strip every single week, I will be avoiding that area like the plague once they remove that other lane. Your turn lane is not going to assist me getting around the 15mph driver who will be able to inconvenience EVERYONE behind her. It won't allow me to go around the 15mph city bus either because driving in the turn lane is illegal. Nevermind every car that will have to literally STOP to make a right turn to yield to bikes and pedestrians while you and 20 other people sit behind them waiting for 1 bike. I know I know, just avoid the area because of the reduced number of travel lanes. Sounds like a splendid idea for economic growth to me.

Oh and look, Mr. Im so intelligent, you are all idiots just compared a zero business residential area with a 100% business district when talking about traffic. Hey shite for brains, I'm perfectly OK driving in my neighborhood behind someone for a few blocks, but you know what I'm not ok with? Getting stuck behind someone on a major east-west surfact street in the center of town.

I was headed to the post office on Perkins and it took almost 30 minutes to get from Blue Cross to the mall where I turned around.

Two lanes are closed for what pretty much looks like nothing at the moment.

Phil’s is your point of reference? Maybe it was just a slip of the fingers but when was the last time you even went down government?

One street subdivisions with 100s of homes is stupid, but so is shrinking Government.

I drive this every day. They are actually repairing the road the right way. They are removing bad sections of the road and pouring concrete as it should. Thankfully they aren’t shoveling asphalt in the pot holes like you’d think.

Hey buddy, I’m not ignorant at all and I realize it’s a dumb decision. Just give it time and let it all play out. Once the businesses start closing or one or two wrecks shuts the street down, you’ll see the outrage.

I’ll love bumping this thread you smug piece of...

You nailed it. Reducing government street to 2 lanes has nothing to do with business there. Broome and her racist posse are trying to force the population to use north and Florida to try and bring more traffic to the area in the hopes of revitalizing/gentrifying it.
