Y'all will probably chastise me for not putting this on the political board but I don't really care.

I would to see my mortgage statement at the end of the year with rising insurance rates in Louisiana plus increased property taxes due to no income tax. This shite will be more than my principal.

Property tax needs to go too. Only sales tax should be allowed.

question for the floor: how high of a sales tax would you be willing to take if it meant no income and property taxes?

.

Would happily double my property tax for no income tax

If you dont like your property tax then move to a smaller lot/house

All tax is bad but consumption taxes are less bad

This is how Texas gets away with it and yet people think it’s such a big difference not paying state income tax. The states gonna get their money one way or another

Whatever it takes to make up the deficit.

Sales taxes force everybody to pay their fair share

EBR is already at 9.5 or 10%, this highest in the nation for a city of its population size. So no more than that.

But Texas also has public schools that your kids can go to.

Would we get that too?

In “nice” areas yeah. Just like Louisiana.

Would you send your kids to Harris or Dallas County schools?

Yeah, lets not emulate Texas because Louisiana is kicking butt while Texas is last in everything.

I'd pay a 20% sales/consumption tax if it meant ALL other taxes go away. Level the playing field for everybody. An illegal immigrant buying a candy bar, Trump buying a new private jet, or Musk buying Twitter. 20% tax on the transactions.

This.

Taxing income (which is productive) is dumb as hell.

It is a huge difference for a lot of people.

I don’t think you understand the trade off of paying property taxes versus state income tax and how one is more preferable than the other. Eliminating income tax is also probably the best thing Louisiana can do to turn this shithole state around. Do the research before you speak about something you don’t understand.

Playing devil's advocate here...

LA sales tax rate is already 2-3% higher on average than MS and TX. If you raise the sales tax too much higher, now you're just encouraging people to either shop online at sites that don't automatically add sales tax or make the extra drive to MS or TX to make their big ticket purchases because the sales tax difference is worth the trip.

So it seems like you'd want to be careful about raising the sales tax so as not to hurt brick and mortar retailers in the state, especially it towns close to the state line.

The burden will still fall on the producers, smart guy. So you simply rename the tax and change the mailing address. Brilliant fricking plan. JFC
