Some new neighbors moved in down the street a few months ago. It's a married couple with 4 or 5 kids, all under 11. The older ones usually just ride their bikes up and down the block and entertain themselves. The problem is the youngest two kids. One child is probably 5 and the other is no more than two (still in diapers). These two kids are constantly wandering into the street and I feel it's only a matter of time before one of them is hit by a car.

There is no adult supervision ever. I think the older ones are supposed to be "watching" the younger ones, but that doesn't happen. I know what you're thinking- "Where are the parents?" I have no idea. Best I can tell is the dad isn't home a lot and the mom is out of fricks to give. I very rarely see either adult. I only know when they're home because they drive a massive van. I would talk to the parents about watching their kids, but they're from the Middle East and they don't speak English, or at least not well enough to carry out a conversation. Even the kids barely speak English, so telling them to watch their siblings, before one of them gets hit, has been a challenge. Short of physically moving these small children out of the street (I won't do that), what are my options? Call the cops (seems like a dick move)? I have no idea how to approach this issue, due to the language barrier. Should I just stay out of it and mind my own business?

Hook your El Camino to their trailer and move them.

Meh I’m sure they’ll be fine. Kids these days have waaaaay too much adult supervision as it is.

Video the younger kids in the road a couple of days in a row and turn it over to law enforcement

If a toddler in diapers is wandering out into the street regularly with no adult supervision, you’d be a dick to not call the authorities.

At least one of the kids running around isn't this one.

Depends on what kind of street. A busy one yeah I agree. Some quiet cul de sac what’s the harm.

Protecting children when their parents don’t/won’t is not a dick move.

Call child protective services when you know the parents aren’t home if you really want to end it. If you don’t want to do that then stop complaining

At least report it to CHFS/CPS. Especially if you don't see any adult supervision to speak of.

The parents are probably busy posting threats on nextdoor toward cars driving crazy thru their neighborhood and how they better not hit their kids who live in the streets

Hire them to do work around your house like make soccer balls, assemble iPhones and tend your garden at a rate substandard to common citizens

This was just another day in the neighborhood when I was growing up. Amazing how much attitudes have changed regarding child safety.

Now, I'm not saying not to do anything. A lot of things our parents used to allow were kind of idiotic looking back.

The littlest ones are the parents.

It is a Benjamin Button thing. Help change the diaper and they will be indebted to you.
