That looks like some high-end EF4 damage with those trees stripped to the trunks and debarked like that.

As opposed to your ability to read. I specifically said it was bad advice when there isn’t time to leave not when there’s enough time to drive out of range lmao

I never thought I'd see two completely unconnected stories connected. Racist assholes in the Nottoway posts on Facebook are also cheering this tornado. Wtf is the connection here? Is this town mostly white or something?

Tornado’s are strange. There was a tornado hit a subdivision near where I live some years ago.Subdivision was full of pine trees and that was what caused all the damage ,falling on vehicles and houses.I saw one house had 1 tree fell, smashed 2 vehicles and dead centered the roof and collapsed it.Another house had 4 trees down, missed their vehicles and house.Saw houses not touched and next door neighbors on both sides had trees on their houses and/or with significant damage.

I had a good many tall pines around my house,I had a tree surgeon cut them all down, bought a tractor with a grapple and did the cleanup myself.

My understanding of this is sometimes there are smaller intense vortices within the larger circulation of the condensation funnel, and if one of those other circulations wraps around, it can cause more damage.

A man can have that protective thing going on inside and he knows something is brewing and makes a seemingly crazy decision to protect his family. You did great. Minor damage is something to be happy for bc many probably lost everything.

Your advise is ignorant, as is your attitude and comment. I didn’t attack you personally, but I a happy to now!

Update. We were able to get to our house. We placed tarps and plywood over the massive hole that was our bedroom window. Glass was everywhere, my desk, chair, and other office stuff shredded. My rosary, which was draped across the bedpost, was untouched. Make of that as you will. We had a roofer place tarps over the numerous holes in our roof. Our siding was shredded with debris. I have what looks to be some sort of metal awning piercing the side of the house.

We have several mini mountains of debris in our yard. The back and side yard were filled with planks drove deep into the ground like spears. It must have been pure hell when the twister passed near. A large maple and my apple trees twisted.

Less than a half mile, maybe a quarter, it was a hellscape. Mountains of rubble, homes just gone. A family was killed in their basement, cars flipped everywhere. I seen trees debarked, massive white pines twisted and sheared. Our fatalities, just in this neighborhood, has been reportedly around 13. I don’t know what the NWS will rate this. I suspect a high end EF-4 at the core of the path.

I’ve never seen devastation like this. It’s surreal. We are blessed to still have a home, yet I feel guilty for it, if that makes sense, thanks for all of your well wishes.

Thanks for the update OP. A lot of your neighbors did what many of us probably would have did just went to bed hoping for the best with maybe a plan to get to the closet or bathtub if things went south. Your line about the planks driven into the ground like spears is a scary thought and the hell your neighbors went thru when the tornado hit. Something told you to get out and you had the means to do it and you did.
The mindset of it will never happen to me has cost many people their lives especially with natural disasters. As many have stated homes can be rebuilt but you only get one life and sadly many were lost in this terrible event. You and your neighbors have a long road ahead to rebuild but be thankful you had something telling you to leave. Many now are wishing they had did the same.

Glad to hear you and your family are safe.

I have seen the videos of the areas that were completely destroyed. I can't even begin to imagine the devastation a lot of those folks are feeling

I’ve always said if you have time to get in your car then do so. They tell you to take cover which may not work unless you have a basement. Especially when a strong one is on the ground

If you can go mobile do it. 100% correct decision if you are of higher than average intelligence.
