Decent and moral? Is allowing your dog to run loose and growl at a young child decent and moral?

If the gun was outside and your son is not old enough to understand to get inside when you tell him, shame on you for having a gun around an infant. But, if it is charging/attacking your son then I understand.
what if he carries a gun all the time and the dog was coming towards him?
problem is, we just don't know
honestly, of course theres a good chance that he didnt have to shoot the dog....but the OP posed the question about fighting the guy in court....and based on the evidence, he really has no case

I'm referring to the person who shot the animal. Too many people on here seem more than ok with shooting the dog just because it wasnt on a leash and/or growling.
And I have already agreed that pet owner wasnt being responsible either. Doesnt mean just shooting the dog is ok either.
Two miniature dachshunds live next to me and the bark/growl all the time when my lab is near them. If they weren't on a leash I wouldnt just shoot them.

When a female is in heat, males will go to extraordinary lengths to get to her and, at times, will become aggressive around a female who is ready to breed. It's basic biology. Tell your neighbor he is frickwit for letting his dog out in the front yard when she is in heat. If that had been my dog, best case scenario for him would be winding up in the hospital with his jaw wired shut and a little bit of brain damage.
Gotta keep your own dog in your yard.

You people kill me!
You act like you have never gone on a neighborhood safari.
We grew up roaming the neighborhood taking out "wild game" with Pellet guns and 22s.
Point system below:
Cats = 5 points
Large Dog = 4 points
Small Dog = 3 points
Squirrel = 2 points
Bird = 1 point
This is why kids these days are so weak...

You know who else killed animals as a kid? Richard Kuklinski and Jeffrey Dahmer.

Exactly. The guy had time to go inside, grab a gun, walk back outside and shoot the dog.
I had a German Shepard climb my fence and rape my lab. Heard a bunch of howling in the middle of the night. The German Shepard got stuck on the fence trying to get back over. He started growling at me as I tried to help him get unstuck. I said screw this and went inside to get my gun. When I came back out he was gone.

You shoot my dog and I'm kicking your arse, bottom line.
May not be today or tomorrow but you will have an arse whipping one way or the other.

You people are so uptight, take a lesson from Michael Vick and learn to accept animal cruelty.

What happened to looking after each other and each others things, pets, children?
Its a neighborhood, just walk over and say 'hey man, your dog is over here and he is acting kind of nutso, he growled at my kid" Man or woman handles dog...no one gets shot.
As a matter of fact it is such a non fricking issue that I cant imagine I would remember it happening.

Damn, anyone that cant even accept the alpha role over the man dog relationship is no threat to another soul.

i think the trend of news reports on dog attacks isnt helping either
seems like once or twice a week you hear about a dog mauling or killing children and/or elderly folks
you see a threatening animal in your yard and you don't know what he's capable of or if he'll ever come back when you're not around to protect your kid or dog, so you take no chances

What chances were you taking, someone getting bit by a shepard? Not really rolling the dice on a mauling there.

What if your dog was attacking a kid? What then? Because if my kid is in danger, then I am protecting him. Just like a I told my neighbor. He told me my dog came in his yard and started growling at him and his grandson. I told him that I wouldn't want his grandson hurt so I will do my best to keep my dog in my yard, but I would not be mad at him if he had to protect his grandson. I love my dogs, but kids are certainly a higher priority.
