Not really that scary, but a true story, nevertheless.

My wife and I were flying out of New Orleans in route to Cancun for our honeymoon. We arrived in the city a day before our flight, so we went to the French Quarter that evening. Eventually, we found ourselves at Jean Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop.
It was a warm, muggy June night. We were enjoying the music and our drinks, candle light, taking in the atmosphere. The building itself was obviously very old.
While discussing all the events that this building had witnessed, I pulled out a cigarette and put it my mouth.
Talking to my wife, with the cigarette hanging out of my mouth, I held the match in one hand, the matchbook in the other.
I remember talking to my wife about haints, and that if there were any in New Orleans, this would be as good a place as any to find one.
Suddenly, a whisper of a breeze blew out the candle at our table, and a cold dampness raised goosebumps on my skin. Almost immediately, the match in my hand spontaneously combusted!
The look on my wife's face confirmed she had experienced the event the same as me. With wide eyes, she said, "did that really just happen?"
We sat there for a half-a-minute before deciding to leave. As we got up, the candle at our table reignited! We left with the quickness.
We occasionally return to New Orleans; we don't go to Jean Lafitte's, and we've never again experienced anything like we experienced that night.

The scariest thing in this thread has been trying to read walls of incoherent text, written by posters who seem to not have had beyond a 1st grade level of english classes.

Not sure if this is chill-worthy but it just happened:

Was talking to an older lady in my church who said she was very tired and I asked why.

She told me she didn't get any sleep the night before because people she had known who were dead kept waking her up to talk...

Solid thread, but imo the ghost story one was better. Especially where that dude said he had some portal in his house

Why would you rephrase the same event? Previous poster did it better.

I got as far as him getting to the bathroom and granny was on the toilet but the acting is so bad on ID channel and their accents were sooooo dramatic that I had to change it.

I think I meant to post this story in this thread at some point and forgot...

It's the way this one is written...and the fact that it's true ACTUALLY true...

quote:

This is a story without beginning or end, only a middle where there is horror and confusion, tragedy and a haunting evil that cries out for understanding. Stephen King, not I, should be telling it. It takes place in the shadows of rural church spires, in an isolated part of the Texas heartland populated by God-fearing, hardworking people.

And at least one faceless monster from long ago.

On the final Thursday of October, Stephen and Deena Roberts stood in the vacant upstairs of the large A-frame home they'd moved into three years earlier, contemplating a major remodeling project. Their two young children were fast reaching a time in their lives when they would be demanding more privacy, and the parents, in their 30s, had decided to oblige them by converting the unused upstairs space into two small bedrooms.

Comfortable in the downstairs portion of the house that sits on 30 heavily wooded acres off Brown County Road 153, a half-dozen miles southeast of the community of Bangs, 180 miles southwest of Dallas, the Robertses had paid what they referred to as "the attic" little mind since purchasing the home in July 2000. Then the need for additional room arose.

And now the husband and wife, an auto repair shop owner and a day-care worker, were surveying it, assessing the structural changes to be made and the electrical wiring to be done. In the far corner of the room was a closet built out from the wall. When Deena Roberts opened it, she noticed a small door in back that obviously led to a crawl space behind it...

Didn't happen to me personally but rather to my Great Uncle. Not as creepy as most of the posts but I feel it better to contribute than just bumping

He lived off a side road of Greenwell Springs a few miles down the road from that old Looney Bin (before they leveled it). It's pouring down rain outside, he's sitting on the porch smoking a cigar. Heads inside to refill his drink. Hears his doorbell ring, odd because he's out in the country and the few neighbors he does have are close enough friends to not so much as knock when they come over. He's a little uneasy, grabs his pistol. Answers the door to a a disheveled looking teen girl who he said "had the look of the devil himself in her eyes". Making her aware of his gun, she frantically asks if he can take her to the mall. Some BS story about how her car broke down last week but she has to get to work. He politely declined and told her to leave his property.

Three hours later the Parish Sheriffs show up asking if he's seen this girl, as she's escaped from the Mental Hospital up the road and could be a danger to herself or others. The Sheriff told him he was a lucky man for not giving her a ride, no telling what could be taken place.

Two weeks later he's cleaning out his workshed and finds a makeshift living quarters with a fresh burning cigar butt in the ashtray. He immediately phones the good folk of EBRP and they come to search for her. Find her a quarter mile down Stoney Point trying to break into a mobile home.

TLDR: Crazy girl escapes Greenwell Looney Bin, asks my Uncle for a ride, camps out in his workshed for two more weeks smoking his cigar butts and eating out of his trashcan.

I actually know the family and saw the chair. They had "kicked it to the curb"- and who wouldn't have?- by the time I went over there. We talked with them and prayed over the house. Not the weirdest story I've been a part of though.....

Got a call from a lady once (I'm a pastor) saying she was having multiple weird and frightening supernatural encounters on a regular basis. Lots of stuff- huge bugs (like a foot or so) crawling on walls, sounds of sword fights taking place on her upstairs balcony, so many events I couldn't believe she was still staying in the house. We went to her house to pray. Long story, short- felt like we should check attic. Found a satanic bible, candles, feathers. Unbeknownst to her, her step son had been doing rituals up there. She burned the stuff. Problem over.
