Check out Eat to Perform.
I personally eat strict paleo. No sweets, alcohol, grains, etc. No cheat days. Breakfast is water, hard boiled egg, 5 egg whites, a veggie and a piece of fruit. Lunch and dinner are premade meals or salads. Typically 4-6 oz protein, 1-2 cups veggie, 1/4 cup clean starch (like a sweet potato). It all gets microwaved (except the salads of course).

I look at the ingredients and if it has more than 5 ingredients I don't buy it. Lots of meat and veggies. I try to stay away from starches. I also do the small meal thing, I eat several small meals a day.

I'm no expert, but I'm doing a pretty good job losing weight.
Two months ago, I weighed 208 pounds. Today, I weighed myself at 174.
Of course, I've been working out, but diet is huge. It's half of the process.
So, I eat high protein, good fats, low sugar, and complex carbs.
It has worked for me.
In the morning, I eat egg whites and turkey bacon. Coffee with non-fat, no sugar creamer (and very little of it).
Lunch, I have my nutribullet. I fill it with a protein powder, veggies, fruits, and nuts.
Snack, I take a potato, cut it into chips, and bake them. Really healthy, really good.
Dinner, I have a meat (chicken, turkey, or fish), and usually veggies or veggie pasta (with extra virgin olive oil, like a teaspoon).
It has worked for me. I may start looking to reduce something so as to have a bigger caloric deficit.

do you ever pack a lunch?
Pouches of tuna. We have a fridge in the breakroom, so I stock mayo and boiled eggs for tuna salad.
Cans of organic chicken to alternate (cut down on the mercury, mainly). If you can run by a nearby Wal-Mart a lunch, you can get their rotisserie chickens which aren't bad.
Obviously fresh fruit - oranges, apples and bananas - but are mostly snacks. Same for peanuts and almonds.
I eat tuna salad, chicken salad, or tuna/chicken with microwavable minute rice most days for lunch. The rice isn't strictly "clean", but I get the brown and wild to make it as clean as possible.
I also supplement with yogurt and steel cut oats (need fridge for yogurt) and fresh spinach.
Doable with just a fridge - tough with neither a fridge nor microwave.

When I'm on a good diet or not too busy schedule, I can eat pretty dang clean, food prepping does wonders.
I agree with someone above saying IIFYM, but the catch is are you dieting to lose weight, losing weight and being healthier, or just to be healthy.
IIFYM is to keep it really simple, meeting macronutrients. The issue is, some people I know go with IIFYM, but eat foods that are high in bad fats, bad cholesterol, or complex carbs. Instead of eating say an avocado and chicken ('brofoods' as they call it) to reach their fat/protein content, they rather eat beef or pork. Equivalent nutrients, but different in 'health' quality.

The "clean" diets I have read about are usually all natural foods...chicken, turkey and fish only...nothing "unnatural"...like an above poster said...usually if it has more than a few ingredients and if you cannot pronounce the them it is a no go...

I weighed 220 lbs back in March. I currently weigh 165.I kept to healthy diet and not eating much throughout the day and started running. I now run between 35 and 50 miles a week. I have logged 1,324 miles since April. I have came a long way and have got pretty serious about running. I believe to just not eat much and make healthy choices is the best route. I really encourage running it was the best for me.

I pack the same lunch everyday
Low sodium turkey or buffalo chicken sandwich on potato bread, banana, grapes, one pack of raisins, 2 dannon fit yogurts, a cup of bear granola for the yogurts, and two low fat string cheeses.
Breakfast is one slice of potato bread two slices of low sodium turkey, two egg whites and a yogurt with granola.
Dinner varies between extra lean turkey breast, chicken, low sodium tuna, and beans w/low fat beef. I don't cheat on the weekends and now that football season is over my weekly whiskey intake has decreased a lot.

Wow that's a lot of miles. When I'm eating around 1700 calories per day I'm doing 20 miles per week at most.
