Since my current favorite brand, Bonobos, is being acquired by Wal Mart....

quote:

Walmart’s acquisition streak under new e-commerce chief Marc Lore continues. The world’s largest brick-and-mortar retailer is in advanced discussions to acquire Bonobos, a 10-year-old men’s fashion retailer based in New York City. Sources say the two sides have agreed on a price — which couldn’t immediately be learned — and that the deal is in its final due diligence stages.

The deal would mark at least the fourth e-commerce acquisition by Walmart digital chief Marc Lore since Walmart acquired his company Jet.com seven months ago. Those include women’s online retailer ModCloth, outdoor gear seller MooseJaw and online shoe site ShoeBuy. Lore also bought online furniture retailer Hayneedle while Jet.com was still independent.

This sucks

I feel like this isn't getting the proper amount of outrage.

Q: Can you set the scene around the time you launched?

A: It was so exciting what was happening in Silicon Valley at that time. Facebook was coming off the ground and Twitter had just been launched. I really wanted to build something on the internet and here's this guy, my good friend, who's made a better-fitting men's pant. The curved waistband, the right fit in the rise, the right fit through the thigh, really confidence inspiring fit, and I thought, 'Wait a second, maybe this physical product is actually the internet company that I've been looking for.' Maybe by taking this great product and selling it online we can deliver better service, more fit, more size and get out to a much wider group of people than the traditional way retail brands are built. Make it almost instantly available to the whole country. So here we were running around school having guys try on pants. Guys are like dropping their pants behind parked cars and trees, giving us checks and cash to buy the product. At some point we woke up and we had tens of thousands of dollars from selling pants and that's when you can kind of humbly say to yourself, 'Maybe we're on to something.'

Funny answer in an interview with the founder.

My grandfather, may he Rest In Peace, used to say only queers and women wear pants. Men wear slacks, trousers, or jeans. Never quite understood what his deal was with that word.

What would he classify chinos as? Or did he think that men should not wear that type of garment?
