Get to an oriellys and get help...its one, or a combination of the belt, idler pulleys going bad, belt tensioner pully going out, or water pump bearing, or alternator

Basically, the belt and/or any component uts spinning. Bearing one them go out, especially on w4 yr old vehicles.

Honestly, of i found one bad, I'd change em all at this point. If they've never been changed before

My f150 was doing that and 2 days later the alternator went out. About the same age as yours.

Yeah, Google mentioned the alternator, but I’m inexperienced in this dept. I may just take a day off tomorrow and take it somewhere.

Agree with those that think alternator. Depending on your interpretation of hum… have you checked power steering fluid level?

The brim of your hood is whistling. Need to get some tygon (sp?) tubing and slide it into the rubber seal that lines the edge of your hood.

Whomever downvoted this is silly. It's a real issue with that year model. It creates a whistle/hum that sound like something is wrong in the engine block. When you accelerate, it gets worse. Can drive you crazy.

Ask your husband to check the tensioner pulley or power steering pulley.

I think the Tacomas from that year had the 4.0L V6...which features a timing chain instead of a belt like the 4.7L V8 or 3.4L V6 had from that era.

Still worth looking at though if there's vibration when stopped (but in drive) or if there's ticking sound.

I drive a 2011 V6 Tacoma. Yesterday I noticed a humming sound when I started it up. The pitch went higher when I stepped on the gas. It’s more noticeable when I idle at a light. The same thing happened today on my way to work. I’m fearing the worst. Any ideas?

No big deal, it sounds like washer fluid got on the battery. I would take it in to get that fixed. Should only cost around $300 or so to get a new alternator.

I'd say alternator first.

Belts second.

The increase in whine to me would point toward the alternator.

Sometimes you ca. Check and unplug the cable from the alternator and run the vehicle and see if you still get that whine. You'll be running off the battery and not recharging so turn off the AC and radio.

It'll do it for a short while no problem.

1 Fan clutch maybe
2. Idler pulley it’s this 120.00 for the kit for the 4.0
3 alternator bearing

Open the hood & look or have someone rev it up for you. Or if you are a man you know how to rev it up from that situation without being in the cab, and listen look see if you can isolate it

Let’s not risk losing some fingers and just get a can of belt dressing and spray from a safe distance.

Well, that's a better plan, tbh.

I used to be poor, so that was my first thought.
Come to think of it, I used to have all of my fingers, too.

Either your alternator or AC compressor is about to go out. That’s the bearings inside of them. The idler pulley could also make that noise

Do you have any aftermarket sound system? If you run the power wire next to the rca cables it will get feedback through the speakers and sound like a high pitched humming noise. It will get louder under acceleration.
