If you have a choice make Shreveport your 1st stop to avoid the cluster at 5 in BR. I10 to 190 to 49 up to Shreveport over to Monroe to Jackson down through Hammond to nola. Easy as pie.

Going through Utica is the correct answer ...I live in Monroe and go to Nola often...3:45-4 hours drive going through Utica if you don't get behind log truck lol

I am assuming you are asking because of all the construction in MS - because if that, I would utilize Utica.

Go through Utica, avoid Jafrica.

Shortest path if you speed everywhere anyways.

quote:well, actually you should travel a little further west and head north to Lufkin - Monroe is a little east of Lufkin - good luck.
Take I-10 West to Orange and you can see Monroe from there. Ask a local for directions if you need guidance. Hope this helps.

Interesting...this thread proves that the intranets is one of the best and worst inventions.

Nola-BR-Natchez-Monroe-Shreveport
The issue is bridges, I prefer the drive from BR through Natchez to Monroe but I hate interstate driving, Not much time difference at all.

There's a particle board mill somewhere east of Crystal Springs that brings a constant stream of grain hoppers haulng wood chips down that stretch of 27. That's a bottom of the barrel truck driver job with $10-12/hr drivers driving worn out trucks with top heavy, overweight loads on a dark, hilly, curving two lane highway. That shortcut only saves you 20 minutes or so ordinarily but if 55 is under construction approaching Jackson it might be worth the risk. But be aware that MS 27 from Vicksburg to Crystal Springs is probably the most dangerous stretch of highway in Mississippi.
Baton Rouge -> Natchez -> Monroe is a decent option as well.

I have the worst luck going thru Utica. Maybe twice in a hundred times going that way do I Not get log truck, farmer.com pulling a hay trailer or the worst last year, two dudes pulling camper trailers and ATVs doing about 40. So I fight Jackson.
