Family friendly? There are only families at those parades. Like you said, you’ve never been to one before.. how would you know that?

Bear’s has the best roast beef pot boy hands down.

I ride in Poseidon (2/16 this year) which is the newest krewe in Slidell. We had 28 floats last year, most of which are double deckers.
Local bands, MS bands and even Southern University marched with us last year.
Nothing wrong with taking the kids to Slidell for a parade.

While the thread is open...
Anyone know of a nice B&B close to the beach in Mogadishu? I've been dating a OT 9 (9 after Bob Vila, 5 before he and Norm got to her) and looking for a romantic Mardi Gras getaway to pop the question. I have the ring and everything, $20g's for a $62k ring off of craigslist. Made out like a bandit.

My favorite po-boy is a Bear's Ferdie.
That being said, I'm all about scoping out a new sammich. I'll be stopping by Peck's when I'm in Slidell on Tuesday.

There's a few decent hotels down Gause by I10. Nothing wrong with the parades there. They're on par with what you would see in Covington or Mandeville. I usually catch the parades on Gause where they make the turn off of Front street.

You might want to bring your own B&B...

Slidell is trashy but it's not like little kids are going to be connoiseurs of the finer points of Mardi Gras. They'll be just as happy catching a doubloon in Slidell as on St. Charles.

People on this board are fricking retarded. There is nothing wrong with those parades.
Where does all of this bull shite come from?

I don’t think there are any good hotels on the parade route. I’d stay in one of the new ones out by the mall.
Front street is a good place to watch and is on the middle of the route. If you get there early enough you can pull your car on the grass between front and the railroad tracks.

Real answer here:
I would stay at any hotel in Slidell. There is a new Marriott right off of fremeau ave. Driven and parking to the parade routes are supper easy so nothing to be worried about. I am not sure when your kids go to bed since they are 6 and 7, but you can catch the parades on any of the numbered streets (3-11) and you will be able to park about a block away. Avoid gause(barricades) and anywhere near Copeland’s(high school trash).
If you want to catch it early in the night it starts by Salmen. Just go through westchester subdivision and stand by win Dixie, south side, or chase bank.
BTW Kenny’s seafood has the best poboys, but don’t stand there for the parades. Very urban.
Let me know if you need anything else.

Catch the parade on Ponchartrain or Front St. (both are Hwy 11). There's tons of easy parking to be had by West Marine on Ponchartrain and that's a good family area there.
There's a Wingate off of Gause behind Hooters. Pecks is close, plenty other restaurants in the area of that Wingate. Some local good eatery's for me... The Blind Tiger, T-Leblanc's, Bonnie C's, Poboy Factory, KY's in Oldtown, & Pizza Platoon.

haha...you must work there
the Slidell location is terrible
I even gave the Metairie location (next to the Causeway overpass)a chance and the roast beef there was a little better...but they are far from a top 10 list of best roast beef poboys in N.O. Bears may be in the top 10 in Slidell, only because there aren't that many poboy restaurants in Slidell.

I don’t think Bears is even open anymore. The tenant in that building may have even changed twice since Bears.

it was so bad there that I think they closed...yet he was recommending it...
I think it's Fratelli's Italian grill now...

Yeah. I don’t know if Fratellis is surviving. I ate there. Food was good. But Slidell is over run with chain eateries. It’s hard for any kind of local mom & pop joint to survive.
