Need Advice - Is my friend gay?

Long-time lurker, first time poster. My “friend” has a problem that I believe only the OT can solve.
My “friend” is a socially awkward individual, with a possible case of mild Asperger’s. He does bad in group situations, stutters, and can’t talk to girls. For the past 4 years, he has been chatting with a girl online whom he refers to as his girlfriend. Me and the boys have been giving him shite for years for it and basically been telling him this girl isn’t real, you’re an idiot, etc. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, it comes to the light that his girlfriend is actually a dude and he has been catfishing him all this time. To make matters worse, my “friend” still has feelings for this individual. He claims that he is in love with the being, not the person, they talked all the time, she was such a big part of his life, blah, blah, blah. Worst of all, he claims he can still have a relationship with this dude, if its online only, and he wants to meet with this dude in person and sort out his feelings with him. I have told him that it is a terrible idea and that he should fight the guy based off principle. All our friends agree on that.
So what says the OT? Should my friend meet with this guy? If he has feelings for this guy, does that make him gay, even though he was catfished and thought it was a girl? What do you think he should do?
TL;DR – weirdo friend got catfished by a guy pretending to be a girl and now he possibly wants to be with him, definitely wants to meet with him.

The online sexting must have been pretty awesome for him to want to meet him IRL

He may not be gay but seems as if he will hold one in his mouth till the swelling goes down.

I laughed.
I know a guy who I went to high with that would put himself in a situation like this. I had to convince him not to have sex with this fat chick who had herpes and a kid when we were like 20 (he was a virgin and hadn't had a girlfriend yet at that point).

Ask him if he will 69 with you and after you two blow loads down each other’s dick suckers, then you’ll know the answer.

To make matters worse, one of the girls online photos was a Getty stock image.
