I remember people who lived in real poverty in the 60's, and 70's, smelling worse in the winter. Two factors figured into that. They didn't have hot water running in their homes, so they had to heat water to bath. Taking a bath was a lot of trouble. They also heated their homes with wood stoves and fireplaces, so they smelled like wood smoke too.

Deodorant was a made up product started in the 50s

Have fun slathering aluminum into one of the most lymphovascular proliferative areas of your body daily for decades

Deodorant doesn't have aluminum though.

I wonder if anyone did any cancer research into using aluminum for this.

We may have another talcum powder case in the next few years.

I'm 40 and I've never used deodorant. If you shower daily you don't need it.

Back in the early 90's I had an Organic chem lab partner, one of the pre-hipster's with the ear gauge and nasty clothes that didn't appear to bathe or wear deodorant. There were lab sessions I wanted to stick my head in the vent hood just or relief.

But according to a new poll, an alarming amount of folks are ditching their deodorant altogether. The poll found that about 40% of people 18-24 don't use deodorant at all and haven't in the last month.

Damn, I didn't realize Phish and Widespread Panic had that large of a fan base.

And for most of human history everybody smelled that way. Deodorants and frequent bathing are artifacts of the 20th century, and are still not prevalent everywhere in the world.

Not correct. Egyptians/Romans/Greeks all had perfumes they used under their armpits and other regions to mask the smell.

There is a lady I work with, mid 30's, very pretty. (Sorry no pics) She must not use deodorant because by the end of the day she smells to high heaven. She is so nice no one will tell her. Me neither. I just hold my breath around her.

Do you know how I tell people who stink that they stink. I look them in the eye and tell them they stink and that they should shower and use some anti perspiration / deodorant.

I admire your ability to provide such a subtle hint to the offensive individual.

I'm bumping this because this shite is out of control.

The amount of BO I smell on younger people is disgusting.

People like to bash boomers for raising millennials, but at least they taught us to not smell like shite. This next generation is fricking out of control with the smells.

I can't even enjoy a beer with your stank.

Or you can smell like shite and still get cancer.

If you smell raw onions, it's you. Will always be you.
