re: Nearly 1 in 3 married Americans report they’re not having sex

There is a lot of truth to this. When a man realizes that initiating sex is his department and the sex will increase. My wife seems to want the whole deal where we both orgasm maybe once a week. Less if she is under a lot of stress and PMSing. So we schedule that time once a week. I am not content with this so once or twice a week she takes care of me when I ask. Sometimes I’ll just tell her that in the next day or so I need her to initiate at least a quickie. She almost always obliges. But here is the other thing. She has other needs that are not directly sex related that I make sure I’m fulfilling for her. Such as Adult conversation (she is with kids all day) and helping around the house. We have been married for 25 years and honestly life it better than ever in this area. It helps that we genuinely like each other. When we figured a lot of other stuff out the sex piece fell into place pretty easily. Also, people need to check in with the doctor often on their hormone situation. We are proactive in that area. Lastly, men, especially young men need to know how to make sure they are giving their wives orgasms.
So much of this comes down to communication and not being afraid of talking to your spouse about what you need, what you want, how to do things, planning, constructive criticism, and the like.
But a lot of people don’t talk to their spouse because don’t have the guts to do it.

I think this is the key that so many miss. It’s not just about initiating sex or even hormones.

Older people slow down
The population is aging so it stands to reason it would be 1 in 3.

I don't. Older people slow down, and younger people think sex isn't as fun as online gaming or standing in line at Starbucks.

For God’s sake, when you’re married you’re a team. You do things for each other. That includes not turning into a lard arse so you remain attractive to each other. Life’s too short to go it alone, imo. Would rather have someone always in my corner.
Correct. Sounds like you agree with me.
The poster I responded to said that if your wife turns into a fat, nagging hag then it’s your fault for not “keeping the spark alive”.
That sounds to me like blaming the woman’s actions on the man and refusing to hold her accountable in any way. If she gets fat, then it’s all your fault. That is ridiculous logic.

1 out of 2 married people are unfrickable so the fact that this many get some action is impressive

Slowing down is one thing, but going more than a year without is something way different.
My wife and I are 65+ and we have "slowed down" some, but still do it on the regular.
ETA: we are both still physically fit.

This country has really done women a disservice as to not really pay attention to their hormones until they come up on menopause.
I cannot overstate how important it is to get hormones straight, and for men, as well. Walking around with nearly 0 testosterone will make you TIRED.
Not to sound like an infomercial, but HRT has legitimately changed my life. I went for several years feeling like a slug and so unlike myself. I dragged through each day, basically ready to go to bed as soon as I woke up. Now I run circles around my college self. It's actually awesome, and I have much gratitude for my docs and the scientists who make this stuff.
