I don't know much about this either. But I'd guess eventually one of your buyers would pop up on the authorities radar and they'd want to know where he got all this "unmarked" gold. This would eventually lead them to you and your train car loads of gold you'd have stashed in your basement smelting operation.

Yeah I was more talking a manageable amount like the shipwrecks recently found. Its like a suitcase full of gold, not a train.
Train would be ridiculous. But I still think I'd slip as much as I could in my pockets

Are you planning on concealing a sudden, massive windfall of assets from the taxman? The looming threat of a throbbing, violent boning at the hands of the IRS is pretty intimidating.
As for moving to South America, I would not advise moving to any South American country with a train-load of non-liquidized assets.

Yeah, I think you could get by with a few bars stashed in your pockets. You'd still have to be careful though. But being able to get away with an entire trainload of gold worth billions? That's not feasible. You'd do better trying to build a bridge between the mainland US and Hawaii.

Never said I would move there and I was talking about a much more manageable amount of gold, not a train full.

I would slowly pump it into a cash heavy business I buy. Like a bar. I wouldn't just drop 500k deposits into my bank account

If it was a train full worth billions I'd be happy with 10%.

I was just thinking about all these reported finds from Spanish shipwrecks and shite. I'd definitely try to sneak that out of the wreckage then report the wreckage location later on.

I'm not exactly sure what the monetary "value" of gold is these days, but it seems like once you've nailed down and followed through with the logistics of smuggling the gold, melting (or hiring someone to melt) the gold down, selling the gold for far less than it is worth through disreputable channels (ie those Cash4Gold businesses), laundering said money through a business (or multiple businesses) which you've had to establish for this scheme, and then paying taxes on that laundered money... it seems like it would be an extreme hassle just to break even.

back then it was about 28 an ounce
it would go off to a smelter, weighed, and separated
minus the costs. no way to know til they weigh it out.

If the Amber Room is on that train along with gold, diamonds, rubies and other treasures stolen from Europe during WWII, let's just focus on the Amber Room alone.
Modern historians consider the Amber Room to be a priceless work of art, at the very least worth nearly $200 million but likely worth more.
Finding just the Amber Room would be an extraordinary find considering that many historians consider it the 8th Wonder of the World. 10 percent of the Amber Room could net the treasure hunters over $20 million, likely far more due to the significance of the room.

That is just one of the theories. There is no actual historical record of what happened to the room. It has been confirmed to have been stolen by the Nazi's during WWII. That last known place that the Amber Room was held was Königsberg Castle in Germany. The problem is, the castle was destroyed in a fire bombing raid.
The room could have just been destroyed in a fire. But there is some evidence out there that it was secretly moved and hidden by the Nazis.

That room wasn't made of gold. It was made primarily of amber and gold leaf. However, the entire room was a masterpiece of sculpture, fine art, and gilding.
Estimates put the Amber Room's modern value at $200 million, but historians consider it priceless due to the significance of the room. Therefore, the value is more than likely FAR higher than that.
We're talking about the 8th Wonder of the World on a fricking lost Nazi train, folks.

I read some where that if all the gold that has been mined since the beginning of human history were to be melted down it wouldnt fill up an olympic size swimgin pool.

My geology teacher in college said something similar, but it was the basketball arena.
Gold is usually mixed with other metals and can be stretched extremely thin because it's so malleable.
