Good luck selling what you find

In not 100% sure but I think if you did it like you describe they'd seize all the treasure and put you in jail.
ETA: of course you could just get it all and not say anything. Only problem then is you'll have a few million dollars worth of gold you'll have to launder without getting caught.

How would it be difficult to sell gold?

I could absolutely sell solid gold to someone under the table. I am not worried about that.

THAT's the part that is tricky.
Selling the gold for cash wouldn't be hard. Hiding that income would be a doozy. Probably have to buy a bar/club and launder it through that.

Gotta convert gold into bitcoins
It would all be black market sales, and getting rid of that much without people noticing would be tough. There are even tattle tales on the black market

Exactly. If you were to make a find like we're talking about where you've got gold that's in the millions, you've got a big task on your hands trying to convert that into cash that you can use if you're trying to keep it under the table. It would be extremely difficult to pull off and the risks you'd be taking are huge.

You cut a gold melter into the profits. Sell the gold under the table.
Then have a shite ton of cash you put in a safety deposit box or in a safe somewhere. Then pump that cash into a bar/club slowly.

Do you imagine "gold" as just being unmarked bars? Or the raw material? It would be so easy to track the origin of any kind of bulk amount of gold procured from a Nazi source. You'd be slapped with a waterfall of international violations.

No doubt, but its fun to think about doing
It would have to be through ownership of a "cash heavy" business. That's the only way I see that isn't provable in court.

Gold can be melted down and changed to look however you want it to look.
There are plenty of folks out there that would buy small amounts of gold from you at a time.
Stash all of it and slowly overtime gain money from it

Melt it down into bars. Would it be traceable then?

Yes, and you absolutely would be caught once that gold is inevitably tracked back to you.
Gotta love people on the internet who think they're Thomas Crowne.

Yeah and I just googled and its apparently not too hard to melt gold at your home. So another idea is to just buy the equipment and sell it off small chunks at a time.

How would it be tracked back to me? We're assuming no one ever knew I found a treasure and its melted into a different form.
I admittedly don't know much about the trade. Is there a way to track gold by its chemical makeup or once its melted is it the same as all other gold?

#1, if you wanted to sell "nazi gold" in that form for it's historical value, you'd probably go through black market channels. You aren't putting it up on the block at Blanton's or on EBay.
#2, if you just want to sell it for the gold value...melt it down. The versatility of gold is one reason it's been so valued throughout history

Yes. It would be traceable back to you in any event, then the hard questions start coming.

I think eventually you'd have to draw the attention of the authorities. Remember we're talking about a trainload of gold here. Hell, imagine the logistics of just getting it all out of that tunnel.

How? You're not answering that. Are you assuming someone will rat me out? Or that I am not planning on laundering it?
And what if I went to South America with it on a boat and sold it after melting it down?
