First of all, I get overtime for both Columbus Day and thanksgiving so screw anyone that has issues with those days.

If the government wants to recognize something else in history that gives me overtime, in cool with that also.

I guess my pictures of my great great grandmother must just be a con the family has Been perpetuating over the years. Probably the whole share cropper thing too.

Can't speak to the sharecropper issue, but I would take the photo of granny with a healthy dose of skepticism.

The family history could be 100% true, but the woods are full of folks with a photo of a great grandma with dark hair and high cheekbones who was said to be "full blooded Cherokee" (often also a "princess"), but research and DNA testing showed it to be completely false. So, as Reagan said, trust but verify.

Most countries back then just killed off their captives when they "invaded" new countries and territories.

These people got handouts and are excluded form certain laws instead. Yeah, such a tragedy.

We should hear what other cultures that were invaded by other countries back in the day have to say...oh wait...we can't.... they were wiped out.

As if America was the first or last country to invade and take over "someone else's" land. Gimme a break.

I'm working on a documentary about Chinese citizens whose ancestors were raped and pillaged by the Mongol tribes. They deserve their reparations.

Do you feel similarly terrible for all the other populations across history that were wiped out by superior technology/disease/famine?

That's simply a fact of civilization. People have been killing each other since the Dawn of time. It's kill or be killed.

The only reason it's vogue to act all guilty is because it's a rather recent development in the broad scope of things.

Tribes fought off marauding Vikings before Columbus was even born.

Allowing invaders in was a mistake.

And it's not as if the Native Americans weren't killing each other off en masse before the Europeans got here.

Read Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs and Steel."

We should have protected our borders better back in the day.

No problems though. We just watchin to see who takes over this land from white man. Will it be Meskins, the offspring of ex-slaves or Muslims?

My money is on the Muslims because they are badass.

So that makes it okay? That's like saying ISIS is pissed so it's okay for people to blow people up when they feel like it? Take it easy in your ivory tower turd.

Have a win percentage battle against the west of a tiny percent. They are fricking cowards.

Who said anything about it being "okay"?

Unless a people can defend itself or eliminate threats to it's existence, they'll become a footnote in history like so many others. Most people have a very short view of reality.

Don't blame the snake for biting you when you know damn well it's a snake.

That's what it does.

All land in the world is inhabited by people who have benefited from conquerors. Don't let Native Americans make you think they are absolved from guilt; much of the genocide that took place prior to the American Revolution and War of 1812 was carried out by tribes in alliance with European/White American leaders. People act as if Native tribes were entirely defenseless; they were driven by greed just like us vile Anglo-Saxons. Also, what of the tribes that were wiped out by other tribes? Did they not themselves commit genocide upon other tribes?

Not saying we are right in all things, but there are shades of gray; it's not as simple as they make it out to be.

What are you talking about!?

All Native tribes lived in peace and harmony and held hands and sang kumbayah.
