Arches is one of my favorite places on earth. I would pay a million dollars to sit inside Delicate Arch at sunset

frick no. They're already trying to price people out of the parks.

How is that not price gouging?

Good NPS is one of the only things the FedGov does well. They've become very popular vacation options in the last 10 years and need the additional infrastructure and funding to support the growth.

Besides if you're anywhere close to a number of the parks, just buy the annual pass and be done with it.

"As of 2016, the National Park Service has an annual budget of about $3 billion and an estimated $12 billion maintenance backlog."

So, the annual budget is $3,000,000,000.00 and then they want $70.00 per car? What the hell? Are we having to improve nature, so the animals can live in it?

I think it’s also just to have less people during peak seasons as well. Overcrowding of these places takes it toll and ruins experience for others, having fewer, higher paying visitors is a better strategy that I support

It goes against the whole idea of public lands. I deal with these frickers a lot and the would rather have no visitors. Federal land managers are out of control

Well the entrance fee is only raised during peak times it seems, when some of these parks are severely overcrowded as it is... so yeah they are trying to price some people out. Not because they don't want people there, but they don't want as many people there.

No issue. Keep all the trashy poors away and make the parks less crowded.

It does the opposite. It favorsmoneyed boorish pigs who know nothing about nature. I've been in this business for decades

If you want to limit access, a lottery system is much more favorable

On the other hand, someone willing to pay $70 to get in is unlikely to be a trashy frick who litters and doesn't know what they're doing.

...Trashy folks dropping $70++++ everyday for admission into theme parks, but somehow they can't afford to be trashy at these National Parks? Yeah right. Won't stop them.

Yeah I wasn't exactly following that logic either. Guess no one here has ever visited Six Flags or Disney

The gov could just take 1 billion off the 600 billion it spends on defense contractors to cover costs .. nevermind, that's just ridiculous, 599 billion could never cover the defense costs
