America not being God tier is ridiculous.

There really only needs to be one reason why we belong there: the United States fought not one, but two transcontinental wars on different sides of the planet, simultaneously, and won them both. We projected enough power over two different oceans that we obliterated two nations on the other side.

GTFO with this "High tier" bullshite.

Yep. After Forrestal stepped down the new SecDef put everything into the B36, he cancelled the USS United States supercarrier and ordered 90% of naval ships to be scrapped.
The marines were ordered to scrap their materials, most tried too bury or hide them. Multiple admirals came out against the government and said it was crazy to assume that only nuclear Arsenal mattered.
One naval brass releases a document showing that SecDef was on the board of Convair who was making the B36. A huge shitstorm followed.
Then Korea happened and it was quickly decided nukes wouldn't be used. Low and behold the Navy becomes very needed again.
Sec def fired, new sec def restarts super carrier program. Given name USS Forestall after the secdef who retired previously.
Sort of a last fu to the air force.

Crazy. But in 1944 45% of GNP was tied into the military, the goal was to get that to 9% by 1949.

Came very close to killing the Navy had the Admirals not revolted.

That's the best reason. Throughout history most nations that fought two front wars failed.
We basically recreated the nations we fought in our image.

I think it was Bull Halsey that gave the entire government the finger, correct?

Created by a Canadian, capitalization in "the Queen" and France is ranked too highly to have been made by a Brit.

I don't want to argue or debate, but they "won" because red Vietnam still exists. Our side doesn't, that's a victory how you get the victory doesn't matter.

What's a shame is that while they aren't an ally they certainly never became the threat we were afraid of and people actually go there to vacation now. It makes me sad that we sent so many to their deaths and many came home emotionally and physically crippled and scarred and it probably never needed to happen.

I good with dates, bad with names. When I nerd out on history I act like I'm writing a research paper then keep it in my file cabinet for notes.
One day I'll write a book lol maybe when I'm 70.
I love the historical discussions that pick up here.

Germany finished 1-2 in major conflicts. The only one that they won was the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71 and Germany wasn't even a country at that point.

They are pretty close to an ally now.
I thought they just bought some military equipment from us.

Not a full ally but they are heading in that direction. Both of us have uneasy relations with China.

What’s the last battle we lost? Chosin? Idk if that’s even considered a loss? Battle of Osan? Market Garden?

Germany has been supremely hamstrung by the leaders of their country in the two world wars they sparked.

The Kaiser and the Fuhrer coupled with Hermann Goering and Himmler were losses waiting to happen.

I did watch a documentary on the B36 project where this issue was discussed. It’s facanating how at the end of WWII the “bomber” crowd though their longtime dream of air power making both naval and land forces obsolete had come to fruition. Remember they’d been trying to prove as much all the way back to right after WWI when in 1921 Billy Mitchell carried out his famious air power Demonstration, sinking mostly old German battleships in Chesapeake Bay.

Market Garden?

We held up our end of the bargain. It was the British who screwed it up.

As for our last major battlefield defeat. I’d argue you’d have to go back to Kisserine Pass in early 43.

I believe it is a national security policy that we are to maintain a fighting force capable of fighting, and winning three separate wars on three separate continents. If I'm wrong, let me know.

I think it was to be able to fight two wars simultaneously. But to be honest, I think we’ve cut back to the point we’d have trouble fighting even one right now. Two is out of the question.
