what is your opinion on cyclists that ride on roads that are not designated bike routes?

so there is no distinguishing this road from any other road around nashville?

Lol at calling that accident "minor"
He globered the biker square on.
Hard to prove intention from what we see but the guy deserves to fry. He, at the very least, was not paying attention

meaning it should be illegal to ride on non designated bike routes? we both know it isn't i am just trying to get the cyclists to see the hypocrisy of their ways. We are doing it for health, it's a designated bike route, vehicles should yield to traffic that can't go the speed limit...blah blah blah...i don't get the we should be able to ride wherever we want mentality

I grew up in a small town in Mississippi where only one person I knew rode. He was known to us as the crazy guy on the bike. After college I moved to Florida and got into triathlons. I had never biked before then but fortunately I was around people that taught me about bike safety and bike ethics. I later moved to TN which also had many cyclists. In both areas motorist were used to seeing cyclist so everyone just shared the road and there wasn't any fuss about it.
I believe if it's legal for a cyclist to be on the road they have every right to enjoy it just as much as someone in a vehicle. It doesn't add any considerable amount of time to your commute.
When I retire I plan on traveling the Country both by foot and by bike. I have no interest in driving to California when I can go there on my bike. 15 years ago you would not have caught me saying that for anything. But you just see more, experience more, and meet more people when you are cycling or hiking. It's a great lifestyle. Most people that complain about it have never tried it. If they would I believe their opinions would change, just as mine did. Like I said before, don't be in so much of a hurry. Slow down and enjoy the ride. Life is just more enjoyable when you aren't always in a hurry.

I don't understand your point
I guarantee if you ask cyclists if they would rather ride on a busy street or a designated bike lane/path, they would choose the designated path 100% of the time if given the option
but not all cyclists have that option

The guy was standing on his feet before the guy driving the deadly weapon had fully passed him.
The accident was minor in nature. It's the behavior afterwards that is sketchy.
37 years is a lot of years because of some road rash.

Why is it all about the commute? I see cyclists that don't stop at stop signs, proceed through red lights when they shouldn't as well as hindering the flow of traffic. Most ignore the laws of the road and some of the excuses I've heard is we don't want to stop b?c it's harder to get back up to speed.
Why is it more dangerous for cyclists to ride on side walks than public roads?

can't ride fast enough and it's dangerous for pedestrians...

This accident occurred on a road that is a designated bike route. That doesn't mean it is designed only for cyclists but these cyclists (some in this thread) act like it is their road. The guy was riding near the center of the 2 lanes...why shouldn't he be more considerate instead of having the mentality "I have the same rights to this road as you and you will have to alter your route to avoid me." Why don't the cyclists have to show some courtesy and yield as much as they can?
Ever driven some of the country roads in Texas? Motorists will pull on the shoulder to allow faster vehicles to pass.

I bet far less pedestrians are killed by cyclists than cyclists killed by vehicles every year
ETA: it's a bad thing to allow 2 forms of transportation on the same path when they travel at much different speeds correct?

And they should be ticketed for it. If this is an issue in your town you should be talking to your police chief.

Cool. And some non cyclists have acted like it is only for them as well.

It has already been explained in this thread. Cyclist "take the lane" because it's generally safer.

Is there a shoulder on Natchez Trace?

probably because cyclists and pedestrians are generally separated by law

yes
you keep making the "it's not safe" argument and it isn't safe
but most cyclists don't have a choice
show me the designated bike paths in Shreveport that I'm supposed to ride on

still can take up the right half of the lane to be courteous...when vehicles approach

are you just ignoring the reasons why they don't do this?
