I am trying to understand what makes you or any other cyclist think its safer to hold steady to the center lane when being passed by a vehicle that can easily kill them rather than giving a little and being courteous when being passed. shite if i am passed on a 2 lane hwy i hug the right side of the road.

if a person doesn't see you, it doesn't matter where you are in the road
if they do see you, I would rather them have to go all the way around me, rather than trying to squeeze past me while still being in the lane
this shouldn't be hard to understand, but I guess if you've never ridden a bike before, it might be

you trust drivers way too much. I have seen people driving badly for over 30 years and I don't trust anyone. i always drive defensively...and would do so on a bike.

no traffic. Vehicle approaching a few cyclist from behind. As a cyclist I would naturally give some room for my safety number one and to be courteous. You don't know if that person is drunk, stoned, crazy, distracted or whatever else. I am not trusting an oncoming vehicle with my life.

your logic is flawed
they are passing me whether I force them to go all the way around or not
either way has the potential for them to hit me if they are distracted
what one way is eliminating is the possibility of them trying to squeeze past me while still staying in the lane and not only putting myself in danger, but themselves and oncoming traffic in danger as well

being closer to the shoulder and the nearest to the place you can to get out of the way is much safer than staying near the dotted lines especially when another vehicle is also approaching in the other lane...i really can't fathom how you can't grasp this concept. How many blows to the noggin have you had due to bike crashes?

do you really think this would be a universally accepted practice if that were true?
or do you think that cyclist understand which way is better from actual experience?

well honestly, every time you get on a road while riding, you are doing this
I have rear mirrors on my back and take the most out of way streets to ride to work
I avoid heavy traffic streets at all costs because I don't trust drivers, but just by getting on the road I'm accepting some risk
