Natchez Brewing makes better pizza than anywhere in Baton Rouge. And the beer is great too.

Beau Pre is a nice little golf course.

It's a beautiful small town that is rich with history, great architecture, and good food. Definitely a great weekend getaway, and one of my favorite small towns I've ever visited.

Not sure I would ever want to live there though. The city is old as dirt, so the social hierarchy is a bit complicated , which I guess is true in most small towns. The garden clubs and tableaux are something else! Definitely like stepping back in time.

Seems like this a problem with any town that doesn't see many new people moving in. When you've lived in a town your whole life and have established your friends, you aren't really looking to make new ones. Versus a bunch of who have moved to a new town and have to find a friend group.

Though Ntz has seen a lot of people move there since covid so it may be a bit better now.

Met a swinger chick there once at the casino bar. So good memories from the one time I went there.

Where do you guys make this up from? Natchez has seen a rapid increase in younger people moving back since the pandemic also due in large part to the movie boon that Tate Taylor has created there coupled with a Mayor that actually knows how to grow and promote the city.

Facts my man, population over 20,000 in 1980, 13K today.

If you’re young and moving there, I can’t imagine why. I doubt the movie industry is the quite the job producing business you seem to believe, otherwise the population would be trending upwards.

A family member married into that. My observation is that it has all the pretentious bullshite of Mardi Gras without any of the fun.

Yeah, I don't know where that guy is getting his info, there's certainly no increase of folks moving to Natchez. If fact, just like the rest of the delta, smart folks are leaving.

I don’t know much about Natchez, other than the only 2 folks who I know that moved there did so after they retired. But they seem to enjoy it, I want to go spend a weekend there sometime, but just haven’t made it out there yet.

Not reading thru all of the responses, but a tour of Longwood is very enjoyable.

The Windsor Ruins is a cool place to visit too not very far outside of Natchez.

A lot of the other posters got it. Natchez has a more dynamic mayor now, and a few more projects popping off, but it has not recovered the population it had in prior decades.

With the exception of a few employers, there is no major middle class living, smokestack industry (IP) in town anymore. It’s not on an interstate and suffers from the same effects as most towns in MS west of I-55. The public schools are bad, and most folks with means are in local private schools, if the schools aren’t closing (Trinity, Huntington).

There’s a lot of history, and sights to see—definitely worth a visit. But it’s not a place most people are moving to unless you are from there or have a connection.

The funny thing is they make such a big deal of all the Old South stuff but Natchez surrendered to the.Yankees without putting up a fight.

It is ironic. Saved the scenery. Also was told growing up that Vicksburg did not officially celebrate the Fourth of July until about WW2.

I’d move there in a second. Good hunting and being out in the country with few neighbors is what I’m looking for. Still close enough to family (2.5hrs) too.

It's got the National Military Park and a cool downtown. It definitely has crime problems, but it outdraws Natchez in tourism.

Pretty smart move. Would you want your mansion burned to the ground for a lost cause?
Lots of Natchez planters spent their summers in the North or in Europe to escape the heat and mosquitoes, and only lived in Natchez during the cooler months.

Natchez had a small battle that claimed the life of an 8yo girl . My cousin owned the house for about 15 years that the girl had lived in. Don't think the girl was killed in the home but I'm not certain.

Oh and many of the plantation owners were jewish men with strong ties to the NE.
