Are these pedos widespread throughout gymnastics as a sport?

I just don't understand how it was known there were concerns and accusations and NO ONE saw fit to either alert the authorities or even take measures to make sure he wasn't left alone with the girls.

you’d have to think by the nature of the sport that’s there’s a decent chance

You are telling me that this gnarled POS was fingering little girls for decades in their own homes and no one noticed?

How in the hell?? And the balls this POS has to do what he did and to even Think that he would get away with it.

The weird thing here is that I've not heard much of this associated with the Karolyi name....seems Bela and Marta should take some heat here.

I get that. But if your daughter told you the doc had penetrated her, wouldn't you shoot his bony arse on sight?

I think nearly every father feels this way. I certainly do.

However, I want to share something a friend of mine told me many, many years ago. When he was a child, an adult in an authority position tried to molest him. Naturally, my mind was blown, and I asked him if he ever told his parents. He replied:

"I was very tempted to, but my father would have killed that guy. And I didn't want to see my dad go to prison over something that happened to me."

I truly understand feeling rage towards a guy like Nassar. However, it's possible for truly perceptive and intelligent children to keep something horrific a secret if they think it might cause more pain and violence for their loved ones.

this. i had an incident with a police officer years ago when i was a teenager taking my drivers license test. it was nowhere as invasive as what those young gymnasts endured. but we were alone and in a car and i have never felt so helpless & scared. i also did not tell my father because i knew he would have gone ballistic. and it would have been my word against a trusted, authority figure. i understand why these girls did not talk about this until now.

He also pleaded guilty to three other criminal counts in Eaton County. And he has already been sentenced to 60 years in prison for child pornography charges.

Damn. So he’s already scheduled to die in prison.

Wonder why he bothered to plead guilty just to receive 60 years? That’s not much of a deal.

Nassar deserves every "medical treatment" he gets from fellow inmates.

It’s the same as with the Catholic Church, Penn St., a bunch of prestigious prep schools, etc.; people know but protecting the institution becomes so perversely important that people who do know sweep it under the rug to avoid damaging the institution. It’s not only craven and depraved, it’s irrational too. Eventually people will find out and the institution’s damage will be compounded by the cover up.

I was a mid-high level BR gymnast with college hopes before I blew my achilles out in competition in my Sr. yr in HS (homeschooled). I worked out with both my male and female coaches daily, and they were like a 2nd set of parents. Found out a girl, like my situation, was being fricked by her adult coach. She was an amazing gymnast, but very shy. Something was off. When I found out her decent-looking 30's something male coach was abusing her, it was sickening. We put so much trust in our coaches.

ETA: I believe she fell apart and was never quite right. It was kinda hush-hush.

Thats why the whole “shoot the pedophile” is not cool- at least until you know you have all the facts. Not only are there always more victims but the parents are often complicit or have a sense that something is wrong but for what ever reason do nothing....

From what I understand, something like 125 police reports were files before something was finally done.

The person who delivered the final impact statement about an hour ago is the one who initially tipped off the newspaper about this abuse. I HIGHLY recommend you all watch her statement.

It was some powerful stuff.
