I wouldn't be the best judge of this, but I say it's probably a little of both, depending on which bar or venue one went to.

Smokies are the same distance to Nashville as the Ozarks are to Memphis and they are much nicer. Hell, within an hour of Nashville are some nice foothills type areas that are much nicer than the Ozarks.

Lets say for a young professional either just out of college or a few years out and single, is there a single / cool bar scene in Memphis? Obviously Nashville dominates here but just asking about Memphis. It seems to be Birmingham is leaving Memphis in the dust these days when comes to a cool place to live.

And I grew up near Memphis
