RTGs

Essentially uses the difference between the heat of radioactive decay and the cold of space to generate electricity

As above they are both powered by pieces of plutonium. As the Pu decays the heat is used for electricity and warming the systems.

New Horizons is also powered by Pu.

Then don't think about the fact that most of the sources of light "stars" you see at night when you look up aren't actually there anymore. They've long since died out but their light is still traveling to us and will be for thousands of more years, maybe millions. And new stars and galaxies that were born in the last few hundred year we won't know about for thousands of years, maybe millions till their light reaches earth.

LINK

Here is a link to their live feed of both Voyager spacecraft.

Has uptodate information on their speed, distance, time since launch, current instrument status, etc. Really cool stuff.

Voyager 1 is going 38,000 mph. Voyager 2 is dragging its fat arse at only 34,300 mph.

Oh and at the time I looked at it, Voyager 1 was 13,593,921,555 miles from earth.

With the speed of light being roughly 671,000,000 mph

It takes around 20hrs for a signal from voyager to reach earth.

Or around 40 hrs to send one to voyager and get back confirmation .

This is the coolest thing NASA has done. Beats when those retards played golf on the moon.

You know they also plowed 5 of the 3rd stage rockets into the lunar surface at almost 6000 mph. How many things have they crashed Voyager into for seismic testing
