Was hoping for a lottery system to decide who gets to go repopulate on Mars.

The Yellowstone magma chamber, in other words, could be a cheap source of power, and tapping it would have the potential side benefit of saving thousands of lives from a supervolcanic eruption.
Just like everything else, the environmentalists will want it banned 40 years after they approve it

Unless they . . . trigger the supervolcanic eruption.

They should really talk to some of the engineers in Iceland who have experience trying to drill in active volcanic zones.
The Icelandics are mostly educated in Germany and do know their stuff. And they ask the right questions.

Nah.
I don't see what could go wrong by drilling into superheated rock and magma chambers.

Has anyone considered just, you know, shoving a nuke down there? I mean if the OT is going to nuke Hurricane Irma we might as well try nuking the supervolcano too.

Strap a nuke to a hurricane and send it into the caldera.

Yes, nukes are the solution to everything. As I remember it some wanted to nuke the Deepwater Horizon leak into submission too.

Well that's because it would cauterize the leak. Duh.

Nah.
We need the MOAB or whatever bomb it is that sucks all the oxygen out the area.
You know, because without oxygen, there can be no fire. Hence, no more magma. Therefore no more volcano.
The theory is supported by science.

Just reclassify it a volcano free zone.

Why didn't Mitch use nukes to solve the statue problem?
