Sept. 15, 2017 A federal judge is considering which details in the blockbuster antitrust lawsuit involving the operator of northern Louisiana's safety net hospitals, a Monroe insurer, Shreveport's dominant health care provider and LSU Health Shreveport should be made public.

U.S. District Judge Beth Foote heard more than five hours of motion arguments Friday in a courtroom closed to the public, according BRF's Steve Skrivanos, and has scheduled another hearing Oct. 4.

BRF, which operates University Health hospitals in Monroe and Shreveport, and Vantage Health Plan, which insures about 60,000 people throughout Louisiana, filed the lawsuit in 2015 against the Willis-Knighton Health System.

LSU isn't a plaintiff, but it is mentioned prominently in the lawsuit, which alleges the university conspired with Willis-Knighton.

The long-simmering feud between BRF and Willis-Knighton Health System boiled over Friday as leaders from both camps publicly attacked the other in separate guest columns published by The Times.

Longtime Willis-Knighton Chief Executive and President Jim Elrod broke his public silence with his submission claiming BRF sullied the honor and legacy of its founder Virginia Shehee's memory.

BRF's Steve Skrivanos fired back, saying Willis-Knighton has tried to scuttle and undermine BRF's operation of northern Louisiana's University Health safety net hospitals in Monroe and Shreveport since 2013.

UPDATE: Willis Knighton trustees meet today to discuss CEO

The Willis-Knighton Board of Trustees has scheduled an emergency meeting at noon today to discuss a "no confidence" statement in health system Chief Executive Jim Elrod.

A group of doctors on the Medical Executive Committee have asked that Elrod resign or be fired.

Willis-Knighton's Medical Executive Committee has issued a statement of no confidence in Chief Executive James Elrod, asking that he resign as leader of northern Louisiana's largest health care provider.

The doctors on Monday sent a letter obtained by USA Today Network to the Willis Knighton Board of Trustees and its chairman, Dr. Frank Hughes, outlining their "no confidence" position.

"Our preference would be that Mr. Elrod voluntarily step down from his position and retire with the dignity and respect due him for his great service to both WK and the Shreveport-Bossier community," the doctors wrote. "Should he prove incapable of graciously stepping aside, you, as the board, must initiate a transition to new leadership."
