They're not overrated.

You don't have to like their music. That's fine. But to call them overrated shows a lack of understanding and appreciation for what they truly accomplished They are the greatest and most(still) influential band ever.

I will give you that they were pop-py in their formative years, but from 65-on they were rock. You can make a case that Helter Skelter is the first heavy metal song.

You can call them a pop band, but you can’t call them overated.

Exactly.

To be fair, from 65 on they were rock.

Yep.. as odd as it seems, the Beatles are actually UNDERRATED .

The things they did while only being together (and really bigtime) for only like 6 or 7 yrs is remarkable.. i still can’t believe the same group sang I Wanna Hold Ur Hand in ‘64 , then like 2 or 3 yrs later were recording Rubber Soul and Revolver.. then Sgt Pepper.. it doesn’t even make sense, it defies logic.. the sheer quality and quantity of their output was insane .. we will never see anything like it if the world continues on for another 5000 years .

i like the Beatles , i do

But so much of it people talk about the Beatles and it was actually George Martin and it was such a small window of time

McCartney has longevity but Lennon so much crap after the Beatles broke up which is bad

I actually have more respect for George Harrison Post Beatles than any of them

Let's remember that they had already been together as a band(Paul, George and John) since 1958. Paul had already written Yesterday and I'll Follow The Sun by the time Martin came along. But yes, Martin was the cog in the machine, but they were a cohesive unit.

This is spot on. Paul is so much better as a songwriter than John and it's not close. Paul has so much more depth and range in his writing. John's best work was In This Life, that was his magnum opus. Paul had Yesterday, Ill Follow The Sun, Blackbird, Let It Be, Long And Winding Road, O Darling, All My Loving, Hey Jude, and that was just with the Beatles.

Em. This is debatable. As Cocomo has said numerous times, when George hit, he hit. (Something, Postman, Weeps,My Sweet Lord), but it was few and far between. Paul was the most accomplished, consistent, and successful of the group as a solo artist (Wings included) and that showed in him having the most #1's. If anything , Paul's songwriting is underrated and underappreciated. He's tGOAT in that category. He's the living king of music on top of it all.
