Yes can get a little bit annoying with the northerners and their questionable voting patterns. Pretty much the only place I've met folks who actually grew up in this area are in my church. Still overall a very good place to live and raise a family.

Cary isn't like the rest of the RTP/RDU area. The rest of the surrounding area is pretty full of locals. People think it's overrun by the Yankees down there, but that's not really true.

Not a big fan of that part of the country. I Like the Rocky Mountains more. The Atlantic Ocean beaches aren’t even that nice IMO. Give me some clear lakes and rivers out west. Wide open spaces not congested over crowded places like the east coast.

Texas, Florida, Tennessee

None have State income taxes. Thus all are better

If you have low regular income but decent real assets, it's better to be in a place with low property taxes.

Most places that have no income tax just have high property taxes. Washington has no income tax but higher average tax burdens than a lot of states that do.

Texas has higher overall taxes than NC according to WalletHub. We are ranked 14th now. fricking Louisiana

I wonder if there is a data compiler that can show you your tax burden by state/municipality based on income and assets. Would be pretty useful.

Friend,

I cannot. Still, North Carolina does not have a city even half as great as New Orleans. It is a beautiful state, but it is lacking a great city.

You obviously haven't spent any time there. If you want to compare to Nola, Asheville is a cool city.

Honor code has us in the top 15 yet we consistently rank 48th to 50th in every objective quality of life measure. WTF are we paying for?

There are TONS of Yankees in North Raleigh. The difference is many of them have been there for 15-20 or more years.

Asheville is way down on the list of great WNC cities.

Bryson, Black Mountain, Highlands, Otto, Boone. Just off the top of my head.

Asheville is a dump.

Diverse in what way? They each have their own unique feel, if that’s what you mean. They’re all mountain towns with great breweries and outdoor activities. So they’re similar in that regard.

Yeah, but you can pick any of the surrounding towns and they are all very much populated by native Carolinians. Durham is still mostly local people. Fuquay, Clayton, Garner, Wake Forest. Head west to Butner, Pittsboro, Mebane, Hillsborough, Siler City, Sanford. All still mostly local people.
