That's the first thing I thought when I read his editorial on NOLA this morning. If I cared enough to sign up to post a comment I would inform him that one of the first techniques an artist, any artist, learns is the manipulation of contrast.

The stark contrast of black skin directly adjacent to white clothes makes the image more visually striking than if the colors were, say, light brown skin to beige clothing.
