It was GHWB.
Hence Perot warning about "That great sucking sound" in the Clinton, Bush, Perot Presidential debate.

Yep.

Perot called it.

Clinton or Bush, we would be in the same position.

The Millennials as a whole are such a piece of shite generation. Absolutely worthless.

Fortunately, GenZ seems much more promising.

Below-market rates is a benefit.

Try to doing a signature loan with no guarantor.

You're right.

Should've said " guaranteed:" there.

This is the same argument that you guys have about home prices.

“Interest rates were so much higher back in the day!”

And every human, including yourselves, would take the higher interest rates and lower home prices over the lower rates and astronomic prices.

The artificial suppression and ease of access has resulted in a ballooning of tuition prices.

If the only option happened to be signature loans with no guarantor, a few things would happen:

1. Substantially less individuals would sign up for them and less banks would even offer them due to the risk of default.

2. The cost of tuition would fall since the loans were not backed by the government and less people would be signing up for them.

The suppressed interest rates and government backed loans caused the problem we are in and made things substantially worse.

That isn’t a benefit.

A benefit is being able to go to college for $300 a semester and to pay for room, board, and tuition with a weekend or summer job.

That is a fricking benefit.

It costs $50k for LSU (in state) and $120k (out of state). That is absurd.

And that doesn’t even account for living expenses.

Not my experience with my 2 Gen Y’ers nor my Gen Z. Those whiny Millennials and Gen Z’ers out there clutching their pearls needed better parenting. Now, this is a legit criticism of Boomers. Many Boomers spoiled their children to the point of self entitlement and narcissism. From what I can tell; Gen X and Millennials are making the same mistake with their children.

With no way to discharge it, for life, including via bankruptcy, other than to pay it and massively accrued interest off?

IMO, the school should have some skin in the game as a fractional guarantor.

All those lazy millennials need to stop renting, make their coffee at home, work at Joe's Hardware Store, and support their family like that. That's how everyone else did it, what's so hard?

I got news for you pal, cops make a solid living. If you’re not a total frick up, and work your way up, you’re easily making over $100k by your mid 20’s if you start at 18.

Look up salaries for cities. I would guarantee you most of the top 50 salaried employees are cops. Many making well over 200k and we aren’t talking chief of police either.

Corporate greed helped kill a lot of the “American dream”. There was a time where you could work at Sears selling tires, and it could support a stay at home wife, kids, and a pension. There was some dignity in that arena. Now those jobs don’t exist. Corporations pay less on average along with adjustments to benefits and pensions. It wasn’t profitable to support a healthy and happy work force.

Completely my experience.

No other generation whines about their predicament as much as those douchebags while never cooking a meal at home and off vacationing in places a Boomer wouldn't have dreamed of. STFU already.

OK, so lower interest rates aren't beneficial to a borrower.

Got it.

Yea, this “benefit” is one-sided, and applicant sure isn’t benefiting much.

The system is set up against the borrower, interest rates aside.

Most Boomers will get FAR MORE out of the entitlements than they put in (SS, Medicare/Medicaid, etc). They will probably be the last generation to have that luxury.

This is mainly the issue. That and they refuse to take the hit at all, or even share the burden. Any conversation of restructuring SS is a non-starter for them as a block. It's that selfishness that defines the generation.

Also, will the Boomer criticism just move to Gen X as the boomer population dwindles? We seem to be skipped right over between the Millennial and Boomer warfare...

Largely no, at least not in the current form. It might shift to "Why didn't you do SOMETHING?" But X and Xennials were largely crowded out by Boomers and didn't have enough influence.

Why are you neglecting every other aspect of the situation?

That is a pretty simple-minded take.

So, you think the costs would be the same if there was no government guarantee?

That’s Forrest Gump level of intelligence.

They do, especially when they seem to get all the OT they want. And a retirement at 20 years in many places. I think starting pay isn't that high overall, but it doesn't take long for them to make a really good salary and the benefits are super.

I recently did this for Lexington, and it's out there for all states/counties/schools if you look. I was astounded how much money fire and police were making.

That's right! frickin lazy millennials. Eat red beans at home and stop buying Starbucks and all your problems are solved
