I really don't want to fix it.

The repair tech showed up at my house a few minutes ago, grabbed my phone and said, "Oh this won't take 15 minutes."

I was immediately overwhelmed with dread.

It was a nice 24 hours without that fricking leash.

You could just turn it off and stick it in a drawer instead of complaining.

Yeah, I could, but people have an expectation of being able to get in touch with you at all hours these days. If you don't answer, they assume you're dead. When I let everyone know my phone was busted yesterday, no one worried or called. It was nice.

Do you mean for work, or just the "leash" of a phone in general?

Because if it's the latter, then you could always just make an adult decision to leave it behind unless absolutely necessary.

If it's work-related, then maybe consider a new job if this is true:

You set these parameters.
You’re to blame.

Yes, there is. I use AT&T and their insurance is through Asurion. I've replaced or repaired my phone twice. Both times they have sent a tech out to my house in a repair van to either repair or replace the equipment.

I also pay $10 a month to cover all the electronic equipment in my home. If it breaks, they fix it or replace it with a low deductible.

So you’re either too lazy or too stupid to just not use it, if that’s the way you feel…

You've cracked the code. I think I'm going to take just one more day.

Subtle “I have a house” brag.

Get a dumb flip phone so you can avoid the internet but still call/text family and friends

Don’t tell anyone it’s fixed. If anyone asks, tell them you’ll no longer be using your smartphone

It’s a nice break but let’s be real. You’ll come back and be back to your old habits of scrolling through your phone when you wake up to bedtime. And anyone who who tries to act tough and says that’s not them to a certain degree is full of it. Technology has taken over cultures across the globe. Unless you want to be live alone in the woods and left behind, having and using a smartphone is part of everyday life. I’d like to say I don’t need it but that would be lying.

...and you immediately logged onto a form of social media to tell people about it.

So?

That's not your problem to deal with.

This seems like a totally acceptable trade off to me.

Yup. Had an S20 for 3 or 4 years now. Going to upgrade when I change companies in a few months. My contract is about up.
