Just tell them that people are different. Some people do the right thing some don't. Explain that men are supposed to be with women and vice versa. Men that choose to be with men are still human beings, but they choose to live a lifestyle that is not right.

You said it should not be any different, and yet it most certainly is. I have no problem telling a kid that sometimes, some people are like this, that they love each other, etc., but I also think it's quite stupid to try and convince someone that it is exactly like a heterosexual relationship, when it most certainly isn't.
