That’s pretty much what we would have to do.

hat isn't even a real power outage come back when y'all are without power for at least 3 days or so

No shite.... 2005 was a year of power outages for me. Katrina and Rita had me out of power for a week and a half or so, and Gustav also had me out of power for 3 or 4 days. Sleeping in that hot mess was the worst.

Those times when the power would go out for days after a hurricane were so awesome. Kinda miss having that happen

I remember it being kind of exciting when there was a big storm and we lost power. Hurricane Juan in 1985 was the first one I can remember. Played a lot of Monopoly, Battleship, and Go Fish by the kerosene lamp for that one.

My youngins remember the outages of Gustav and Isaac. Several days each, so they know what it's about.

I still have that kerosene lamp, and still use it for storms. It belonged to my grandfather, who used it when he was a kid in the 1920's before they got electricity in the farmhouse.

As a kid I loved power outages it was fun to me. Board games and always went to town to get takeout pizza or KFC which was a big deal when I was little because my dad was just starting his career and we didn’t have much money so eating out was rare

remember back in the day when my maw-maw had a million candles in the house, but my paw-paw had the best flashlight money could buy back then, as he was NOFD. The battles over the candles and flashlight were great.

It was always my job to run around and light the candles and find the flashlights/batteries. As a kid it was fun for me

All of my grandparents are gone but I can remember losing power for big storms like Andrew or just regular thunderstorms sometimes and they were always as calm as could be about it.

Yeah, I guess going through Betsy and Camille made it easier for them to be less uppity as some today. My Grandfather was a Captain with NOFD, so when I was little he would be gone when we had hurricanes, but was around later on after he retired...and nothing phased him, but he was also part of the crew that was shot at by the sniper back in the 70's, as well. They had retired to BSL at that point, but would come back in for smaller hurricanes - we never evacuated from 74 - 88.

And when the lights went out during the summer, they (in my case, my mom) would light all the candles and it would get hot as frick...

Do you know anything about the metal model airplanes? I gave my Dad a Tigercat model (his favorite plane to fly) and the fold up wing is broken on one side.

I don’t know a lot about metal models. I generally stick to plastic model kits, usually 1:48 or 1:35 Scale. I do build some 1:72 scale models, usually bombers.

This thread makes me wonder why so many people bitch about the power company.
