I had one as a child. That thing would get out. One time we found her behind the sheet rock and my dad had to cut a hole in wall. He was not happy. Good times.

My family used to all sit around the tv on some nights and watch TV together. We would be watching tv then a little rat shadow would go hauling arse in front of the tv it was our pet hamster. This happened alot. Another favorite place for her was in the fridge in the lower drawer where the head of lettuce was. Found her 3 times in the head of lettuce.

My sister had two in the 1960's.
We had a plastic hamster village with the pipes you could add on to run all over the place.
One time they got out and went in her clothes drawer.
In the drawer the hamsters chewed up all her clothes to make a nest to have their babies.
Dad, had to dig a hole in their servitude behind the house and kill those rats.

Your kid should live a long life, but is it really necessary to call him a rat.? I mean really...!

My brother had a couple when we were growing up. Never got another one after I went Kevin Butler and kicked the little hamster ball into the wall. To be fair I was 3 and just thought it was a ball.

What kind did you get? If you got one of the dwarf ones like I did, it will kill itself within a couple years.

Had a dwarf hamster when I was a kid. A few months later we got him a friend. After about three weeks the first hamster killed and ate the second hamster. First hamster died a day later.

I had two when I was little. First one got out after a year or two and our dog got him... Parents felt bad cause my brother still had one and got me another one.
Second one never got out, kept him in a glass aquarium. He lived a healthy 3 years or so. Then got old, lost a lot of his hair, and on his final day just kinda layed down and struggled to breath for a few hours till he died. Traumatized the 7 year old me.
Congrats on the rat without a tail and possibly traumatizing your kid.
Also get it a wheel.

Set it free. Just make sure to fill the hamsterball with cereal first.

Don't listen to the other posters, you absolutely can put the little guy up your butt. Just take the appropriate safety precautions and you won't end up in the ER.
My friend's uncle used to be an ER nurse and he often worked the overnight shift on weekends. He has entertained us with several tales about fellas would roll in to the ER at about 4am after a night of drinking and experimenting and ask to have a hamster removed from their hind quarters...

I had a hamster when I was little. I also had a dachshund. That fricking dog would just sit in my room waiting for that hamster to frick up. Well one day pickles fricked up and got out his cage. Ruffles was right there waiting and snatched up pickles. RIP in peace Pickles
