That turf can be 120+ degrees. Run them until they puke, but crawling on that surface is idiotic.
They are moving, so they aren't feeling those temps. I'm fricking fed up with how pussified things are going.

First world problems. We were lucky we had grass to play on, much less artificial turf.
And we played Bull in the Ring and did wind sprints until we dropped.
And most of us played Iron Man football, none of this platooning business.
Kids these days, I tell ya......

You've obviously never played on turf during the summer. It gets way hotter than 120. Its unbearable to stand in once place for more than a couple seconds because the bottoms of your feet get so hot and that's with shoes on.

Personally, I feel anyone with a high school education that is willing to lay on something burning or blistering them is a prime candidate for the electric chair.

Yea I'm not saying the coach did anything wrong if he didn't know. But if he didn't know it was hot, it obviously wasn't that hot anyways. And the players are idiots for not saying something.

I agree, I also think this story is made up bullshite.

See the problem all starts with...
See those last 2 words in that quoted part?

The coach did not realize the artificial turf

Well it would help if the OP provided a link or didn't leave out half of the story.
So the kids get punished, obviously the coach doesn't realize how hot the rubber can get, a total of two over protective moms complain.
How dumb are these kids?

A local high school football coach is apologizing after he had his players working out in the heat, and the turf got so hot that it burned some players.
Zach Smith is a senior on the Stratford High School football team and disputes the seriousness of an incident that led to blisters and burns on the palms of players' hands.
"He's the kind of guy that if he knew that was going to happen, he would have not done it," Smith said.
The head coach is T.J. Cavaliere, who during Monday's practice, as punishment for goofing off, ordered players to do a spider-like crawl around the entire field with their hands behind their backs.
More than a dozen players wound up with blisters and burns caused by the hot synthetic turf and rubberized fill.
A parent, whose child is not on the team, is among those outraged.
"That kid should have definitely walked off the field and called his mother to come pick him up, bottom line," parent Felicia Murray said. "Because that is unacceptable."

Still, many parents side firmly with their second-year coach, who apologized to his team Tuesday.
"He's a family man, he believes in family," parent Mary-Sue Baricko said. "His extended family are those boys. He treats them with the utmost respect."

Aren't those just bear crawls????
I did a shite ton of those in junior high football.
They were tough, but they were really good for conditioning.

The one thing I did from Pee Wee ball until end of high school was run my arse off in wind sprints and I don't think I ever had to run nearly as many. Run 10 and the coach would say "look at Martini run and he's a fat arse tackle. Why don't the rest of you pieces of shite run like Martini? He's a piece of shite too but a fast one. Go get a martini, Martini. The rest of you have just begun to run."
All in the effort. And I blame my football coach for my drinking problem.
ETA: We never did bear crawls for "goofing off." We just got the shite beat out of us with a big heavy arse paddle.
And I wish I was back there now.

1. They are called Bear Crawls and have probably been around since the day the game of football was conceived.
2. I understand the proliferation of these artifical playing surfaces but have to question why the game is being played on a surface you can fry an egg on.
3. Can't wait until the next article where the team has to do Up Downs and a couple of helicopter moms go ballistic. Seriously, if my mother ever acted like some of these women do I, the teenager, would tell her to shut the frick up. Embarassing. Notice the common theme in all of these articles, women.
