My dog bit another dog today

I have a 2 1/2 year-old rescue mutt. We've had him for ~3 months. I am a teacher and recently started going back to school during the day. The first month we had him I was working, but since then I was able to stay home with him a lot so we got lots of interaction with people.
I am worried that he is acting out since he's getting less interaction during the day with us.
Does anybody have any tips or suggestions to help this situation.
He's spending 8-9 hrs alone during the day as of now.

This is what I'm thinking.
Right now I take him for a 20–30 minute walk every day and sometimes a short game of fetch. My girlfriend takes him out as well before she leaves sometimes but if she does it's very short. I may turn these walks into a run it may be a longer game of fetch for him

Well, if he won, change his name to Alpha.
But what I'd do is give him as much attention as you can while you are home. And as much exercise to wear him out as you can give him to burn off some of the energy.

Teach it something. Work its mind. A young dog's body seemingly can't be worn out but they will sleep well when you have them on their toes for a while.

2-3 walks a day. Once in the morning before you leave, have your GF walk him again midday, and then once again in the evening. The dog isn't acting out, you've just changed his schedule on your accord and not his. He'll get used to it. My boys did, yours should as well.

bring him to dog parks to socialize him with other dogs and let him blow off some energy. Probably should start out by keeping him on a leash even when you're in the fence to keep him from acting out.
we bring our beagle to the dog park 2-3 times a week and he has a great time.. and then he's dead for the next 24-36 hours after

Do they allow big dogs? My dog needs someone to play with to help build his endurance up for an exercise event coming up. Thanks

Make your girlfriend skip 3rd period and take him out then too.
