Yep. I have experience here. While not with opiates, I have dealt with this horrific bullshite and do not envy to OP. Sorry, but your brother is likely on a bender with the end goal being his death. My experience had a happy ending (so far) thank God, but man, that was certainly the worst week of my life.

Look up Mark Laita and Soft White Underbelly on YouTube and maybe reach out to him. I'm sure he gets requests like this a lot but he posts almost daily interviews with people on skid row. At the very least, he might keep an eye out...

Not a prerequisite to opiate addiction. I have seen it take people who were straight and narrow their entire lives and make them unrecognizable in just a few months. It would explain the complete lack of answers you are getting from friends and coworkers, the wreck, the citation and the lack of contact with anyone.
People in the throws of it are ashamed and don't want to face loved ones so they tend to disappear. All money that would be used for a phone or housing goes straight to the dope man. It's CA and the food industry. The stuff is everywhere down there and in that profession.
Again, I sincerely hope I am wrong but this has all the earmarks of it. I would see if the PI knows of any homeless camps in the area and ask around and post flyers there. I hope you find him.

Even the worst addicts leave little breadcrumbs behind. They’re often pleading for help even if they do the most atrocious thing to their families. I can’t speak for you, but I know what I did: dropped everything (including my job) and went there. You need to be on the ground since I assure you most people don’t give a frick, especially in a place like LA County. They deal with so many addicts and homeless people that they’re beyond caring. You do though, and if you can find the rough last location he was over there, he likely hasn’t traveled too far and is just looking for his final fix. You can get to him while he’s looking for it.
I’m not going to sugarcoat it: he might be dead, but I think you have the power to stop him from finding it if he hasn’t. The Torrance area seems like a final destination from what I know about addicts. My parents tried to stop me from finding a loved one, and I succeeded. I know what you’re going through and it fricking sucks. Even if he’s using cash, there are likely some breadcrumbs.

He literally says in his FB post that he’s purging toxic people from his life. Not saying Sampson is one of them but maybe he’s just figuring shite out?
