Ok so look at him through the lens of his time - he was jailed for his abuses in Hispaniola

Yes, his circumnavigation included a failed mutiny off the coast of South America, another in the Pacific, and him dying in the Philippines getting involved in a civil war between the natives because he was the “boss”. Lots of ships with lots of people dead, including him. But, oh yeah, he circumnavigated the earth.

That’s more impressive than being the second man to discover America.

You mean more death and destruction than the natives were already wreaking on other natives?

Yes, 100% not even debateable haha the population declined like 90% after Columbus. The natives would've never accomplished that through war. You clearly aren't as bright as you think you are

Well, some of the men from his expedition did.

Not sure where you are getting this from. He had a rooting interest in making sure the Visayan ruler was one that was friendly to the Spanish, which is why he agreed to support Humabon. Granted, Humabon would ultimately betray Magellan's surviving crew when they failed to subdue Lapulapu so not much of an ally.

Yeah, and their troubles didn't end after Magellan's death either. Breaking news: Circumnavigating the globe in the 16th century was difficult.

I understand why the Columbus voyages get all the attention in schools considering the continent we live on, but it's a shame more people don't realize how wild that Magellan expedition turned out.

That's because they lacked the brainpower to evolve and create better weapons.

If they DID possess the technology, they would have comitted Genocide against other tribes.

Native Americans were some of the most vicious, evil people to ever live.

The myth of the "Noble Savage" is just that, a myth.

This is ridiculous

They didn’t have gunpowder, FYI the Europeans didn’t “have the brainpower” to invent gunpowder either, they got it from Asia. The more advanced astrolabe they used to help them sail was invented by an Islamic scholar, and the Chinese invented the compass.

Also, the Natives would not have killed 90% of their population

The Europeans “superior brain power” or better weapons didn’t kill 90% of the Natives either, the vast majority died from diseases.

Also, since you want to call people out for not knowing history. 90% of the Native population was not killed by Europeans people miss quote that stat.

90% of the population of Natives on the east coast were gone because of European disease and colonization.

They didn’t all die, a ton of them did die, some of them left.

Your insinuation that the Natives were defeated by the Europeans because they were less intelligent is ridiculous

The great super power the Europeans had was that people with poor immune systems in Europe all died from the plague and other diseases so the people coming to America were the descendants of people with strong immune systems
