which is 100% a waste of time that could be used to learn something else.

its ok that things change. that time spent learning cursive would be 100% better spent learning typing and computer skills

The only time I write in cursive is when I sign my name. And honestly even I struggle to read it.

Many old conveyance documents are written in cursive, like forever.

guess you think balancing a checkbook(who the frick uses a checkbook anyways) is usefull too?

My post above yours explains why I think it should still be taught.

But to this specific point, I think knowing how to balance a check book is absolutely useful whether it's something one continues to do or not. But it's foundational to basic financial literacy and teaching people to not spend more than they make.

Better not write in in fancy cursive.

Now I’m just laughing at 200 years from now there will be cursive handwriting experts and historians

“I found this hand written note in a book in my great great grandmas old belongings.“

“Ah yes, this is written in what was called cursive English. It says ‘Truman eats twice a day. Food is in the bin by the trash can. Two walks daily, poop bags are in the garage.”

“Ah, remarkable”

in a 100 years these morons will find some treasure trove full of cursive documents that they wont be able to read.

Yeah I was literally about to give a "learn to code" response.

Teaching the basics of modern communication to create a plank for propelling into more advanced modernity (like coding) is so much more valuable than a dead, manual script.

I wrote a letter of recommendation in cursive on linen paper and addressed the linen envelope in cursive. I mailed it (it miraculously made it to the recipient).

The hiring manager mailed a response to me, in cursive, thanking me for the fact that I took the time to write in cursive, stating that most letters he gets are from a word processor, and that my letter moved the applicant, the son of a close friend, to the top of the list of applicants.

Some people still appreciate it.

The reality is that the time isn't being used to teach something else. It's just more glitter party bullshite time.

Because elementary teachers are lazy now.

Having instant access to your account balances solves the purpose of balancing your check book.

Over-spending is another concept entirely.

Better hope the electricity isnt out for an extended period of time.

why? am i going to need to write in cursive suddenly?

because i can tell you after hurricane laura hit i was without power for 6 weeks and not once was I like...man if i only knew how to write in cursive, using a adding machine and how to use a typewriter I would be so so much better off.

look im not that young, im 40, so i grew up just like many of you but so many of yall try and justify your antiquated world view and justify useless skills with these one off situations that dont apply 99.99% of the time.

and when am i gonna go an extended period of time without electricity in my life where i wont even have generators? because in my lifetime...hell even my fathers lifetime....that hasnt happened. SO i should always be prepared for the coming doomsday scenerio that preppers have been warning about for the last 60 years? yea ill take my chances focusing my efforts elsewhere.
