Yep. Initial reports are always that there multiple shooters.
I guess it's because people that are in a panic and/or not accustomed to hearing actual gunfire hear the sound of gunfire bouncing off of different places and think it's other shooters.

That is the current mantra being taught to folks in federal buildings and schools as the order you follow in an active shooter situation.
Run (if you can run)
If you can't run, hide (if you can hide).
If you can't hide, barricade and prepare to fight if the shooter defeats your barricade.
And it is precisely because these places are "gun free zones" that those are the best options, in order.

It's extremely unlikely there is a shooting with class in progress. Think about it, unless you want to shoot someone like a professor when you know they are there. If you want to go in and just blast random people starting the shooting when the classes are changing/ out is the best answer. In that case, you run into a classroom and lock the door, block it off, and hide. Shooters are not going to spend time trying to open a locked/ blocked door; they are looking for fast and easy targets.
Playing dead usually works in these situations, the shooters aren't going to shoot people on the ground to make sure they are dead. It's not the movies and not genocide, they are looking for easy targets walking/ running around.

The saddest thing ever is that these people were unable to protect themselves because of existing laws preventing people from carrying guns in a country where WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS!! Had these people been able to carry a weapon of their own to protect themselves you have to know that at least some of them would still be alive today.
