I'm not sure who enjoys downvoting all of the posts in these kind of threads but why don't you focus on downvoting this post alone instead.

Not a lot details yet. Just saying that the driver apparently hit a tree, which is obvious from the pictures. DA investigators interviewing the driver, but I'm sure that's just a precaution for now.

Jesus man, my condolences. Not quite sure how to say, I hope anyone you may know isn't among the unfortunate.

Just curious why someone is down voting this thread. It's very topical and comments are sympathetic.

Chattanooga TV station says 6 killed.

ETA: Earlier reports said 12, so I hope the 6 is more accurate.

How does this happen at residential speeds?

I am often walking in my neighborhood when the buses run in the morning. The limit is 25 MPH, and people raise hell about speeding cars, but the buses haul arse faster than any other vehicles.

So sad, so young. Couldn't imagine what the families are suffering. Feel so bad for them.

Side note. Huntsville Al about 1 1/2 hrs from Chatt remembered those who died in a bus crash 10 years ago. Yesterday.

Yeah I don't think any are blaming the driver without knowing the complete details, but based on the limited information they've released it seems hard to comprehend how it could have happened and been so fatal.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The district attorney said six people died in an elementary school bus crash on Monday.

Hamilton County District Attorney Neal Pinkston told media outlets that five people were killed at the scene and one died at the hospital. Melydia Clewell, spokeswoman for the district attorney, confirmed the number.

Police say the ages of the students ranged from kindergarten through fifth grade.

Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher said 35 students were on board on the bus when it crashed, according toCBS Chattanooga affiliate WDEF. At a news conference, Fletcher said that the bus was the only vehicle involved.

The Chattanooga Fire Department’s Public Information Director, Bruce Garner, said in a tweet that 23 patients were taken to hospitals in ambulances.

I'll never forget that day. Was sitting in history class in the 9th grade when we got the news. Can't even imagine. Hate it.

ETA: Happened in my hometown a few miles from my school (bus was not from my school).

This is very near my place. Sounds like it's driver fault right now, no other vehicles involved, they are saying speed was the major factor.

Woodmore Elementary School bus driver Johnthony Walker has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment and reckless driving, according to Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher.

CNN - Bus driver arrested

Article does not exactly state why he was arrested but does say that speed was likely a cause.
