I look at them every once in a while, but it’s amazing how many DWI’s are given every day. I live in central Texas and there were 10+ given last night In McLennan county. With that many, the county HAS to see this as a pure cash register vs a “safety” issue. When I attended a class with my buddy who got a dwi at the probation office, there were probably 40 people in there. ALL were on Dwi charges. I am beginning to think the county wants dwi’s so it can fund all necessary programs/employees.

Most car stops are done hoping youre either drunk or have drugs on you.
Its not about safety

Good question. I wonder what all the fees are for the county per offense. I know it’s about 3/4K for an attorney, but I have no clue what the county makes on top of attorney fees.

We all know any of us could have been caught 100 times in our life and failed a breathalyzer

I used to get stopped a lot just minding my business with the top open and windows down singing with the radio.
Cops HATE happy people and happiness in general, makes them think drugs/alcohol are in play. Sad state of being where your mind sees "happy" and thinks "crime". And these people, to use the term loosely when it comes to cops, are allowed to raise families, miserable SOB families of course. No happiness allowed.

Posted on another thread. As part of his sentence, my friend had to attend a DWI class and had to bring a family/friend to one of the sessions

I recently saw my X wife on one, she’s a real piece of shite and a terrible alcoholic.
2nd Offense
I’m contemplating sending the mug shot to her with a smart arse text.

For years I had to start work at 2:00 am. At least every other month a cop car would get behind me, follow or pull me over. Where are you going, where do you work etc. License, registration, insurance the whole routine. Everything was good, handed my papers back and said slow down next time. Doing 32 in a 30.

That's a totally different question and assertion from your original post. You were saying that the county is doing it to raise money; do you think that lawyers give the county a cut of their fees?
In Texas the fines range somewhere between 200,250 to a couple of thousand of dollars for driving while intoxicated
If there are ten on a Saturday let's say there are 50 during a week
at $300 x50 a week 15,000 x 4 week 60,000 a moth
And out of that, they are funding the officer, support staff, The court, paperwork, they're losing money on enforcement
Now, a small town on a freeway can make money on a speed trap because it's one officer writing hundreds and hundreds of tickets a week
But you're bitching about people being caught driving drunk
maybe you should sober up

The dwi/dui laws are really crazy. Heard one guy got his 4th 3rd. Meaning once he got his 3rd he got 4 more that the court counted as his 3rd. Basically probation fines maybe some community service. If you get 3 DUI you need to spend more than a night in jail.

frick you, tough guy. I’ve never gotten a DWI and don’t plan to. And No shite the county doesn’t get any money you pay your attorney, I was just talking about the overall costs. Also the fines well exceed $250. Hell the class he’s taking is like $700 alone and well as court fees. I would guess the total fees per offense is probably around 3K, but just a guess.
