I’m trying not to get too personal. She was a nice girl from a good family, but she seemed to gravitate towards guys that had prison in their future.

Not if she wasn't his teacher. She's not in trouble for boning a 16 year old. She's in trouble for banging a student.
Age of consent in Mississippi is 16. When I was still stuck there, there were billboards with a very attractive young woman, a middle aged dude, and the caption "Just because it's legal doesn't make it right". I also worked with a 30 something year old dude who broke up with his girlfriend because he was too old to go to prom and her dad was fine with the whole relationship. No shite.
